Re: What did you do to your Volvo today?
I bought the drivers side module of four switch’s plus off Amazon about 10 years ago for $40 maybe. Just checked, there’s a bunch still available 25 - 75 bucks. I had luck cleaning the contacts on other single switch’s and those are still working 10 years later. I don’t recall details of the project other than it seemed kinda straight forward to a dummy like me.

Switchdoctor is the one I bought a few years back. Crazy cheap and no problems , early failure report was on me , bad wiring splice

I find no matter how careful I am trying to clean them, the button color comes off with the sticky material!

Thanks for the link. I thought the little plastic pieces inside wore out. I'll try cleaning all of mine.
On old Geronimo, one switch cover (the part that gets sticky) broke off as I was using it. Another was already missing when I got the car. It's surprising because the switches are not sticky, suggesting they're not 25 years old... or are a different material. One of the eight directions doesn't work. I wonder if it's a cheap knock off unit with low quality switches which is why the covers broke off "so soon".
My first switches failed after ten years of rolling the driver's window up and down twice every week day (to gain access to a parking garage). The OEM replacement worked fine for eight more years until the car was totaled and will go into another car some day.

I wish you more luck than I had doing this. I cleaned one very carefully and re-assembled. Lasted about 2-3 months. I think that now I have better stuff for cleaning electrical contacts it may be worth checking again!

When SWMBO reported “smoke and fire came out of it on Monday so I didn’t use it “ , on Friday..I thanked the Creator for her tolerance and got a Switch Doctor replacememt
We should figure out to rewire the driver switch to one of the unused back switches to squeeze the last life out of the expensive OEMs
I bet Neil has nothing to do this week.

My window buttons aren’t bad, but the radio buttons are disgusting. I can scrape the crud off with a fingernail. However I fear it is actually “decomposed” plastic button material. What is the preferred method of cleaning there? Was thinking of starting with my fave Krud Kutter. I know the numbers and lettering are goners..

Nothing you can do about the dissolving plastics... scrape it off/replace? For cleaning of residue I'd try alcohol or wd40, if it feels grubby.
