I've had good luck with isopropyl alcohol.

Finally making progress today. Cams went in, cover is glued down, timing is on. Engine passed the rotation test. The cam locking tool is super helpful, worth the money in my opinion. Abscate, I'm putting your aviation gasket maker to use. Timing the dual VVT was not nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be. I did find moving the exhaust 1 tooth was much easier than on my 850. With any luck I'll have assembly done today and may even get to fire her up.

And we are back to upside down photos.

Finally got around to moving the 'R' out from the old garage into the new one. Swapped the summer tires/rims on to it as we have to get some miles on it this year at least to empty the fuel tank and get fresh gas into it before the winter lay-up again!! :shock:

AS the boss has been playing less golf this year due to a knee injury, we have had no reason to use the car. As our son lives with us we share his XC70 and the Toyota and cover some of the maintenance costs with him.

We will park his car for now for a while to get the R used hopefully for a couple of months.

Organized the Rock Auto order for my friends 98 V70 suspension re-fresh and just have to order the front brake pads for a surprise front brake refresh covered by my 'Pay-it-forward' stash.

Then we can organize the 97 850 GLT review and work plan.

After yesterday's cam, cover and timing belt install. This morning was productive. I spent way too much time blindly threading a banjo bolt underneath the xc90 intake. Then got spent even more time getting the serpentine belt on. Even with the tensioner fully open its a nightmare. Then re installed the fuel rail, about 200 electrical connectors, airbox and intercooler piping. Finally she started up and completed a 10 second run. Haven't put coolant in so kept it short.

Good two hours puttering on Elizabeth yesterday. Pictures in maintenance thread

Reclamped turbo water output hose , didn’t like how it was twisted
Installed intake manifold
Setup the throttle body with clamp screw accessible from front. Used lug to index throttle body position, installed hard pipe
Pulled thin vacuum hose and coolant hose from a PCV
Installed lower intake manifold bolts and gasket
Threaded fuel line through manifold rightmost hole
Brought manifold to within 2 cm of position
Installed banjo bolt and two copper washers
Placed manifold into position , then installed vacuum line with forceps working through top
Installed and torqued all manifold bolts
Installed coolant banjo on head 17mm hex
Installed coolant feed on thermostat and oetikered
Empty Nester

How on earth do you torque the far left intake manifold bolt by the thermostat?

I've always used a combination of either wobble extensions or swivel sockets. That's a tight one to get to!

Use a 1.4 drive 10 mm in a wobble or in a flex drive. They dont need to be mega tight
