SRS Airbag Service Urgent

Post by TisMe »

Now that dusk falls and I twiddle my thumbs waiting for the sunlight to resume my PCV service (shade tree mechanic life), I'd like to ask anyone with the knowledge on how to reset this silly warning. Last night I unplugged my instrument cluster hoping to replace some burnt out bulbs, yet both of the guides I read along with the videos I watched... they failed to warn me to remove my negative terminal first. In hindsight, I should have obviously done this to begin with considering this isn't my first electrical rodeo.

Some suggested removing your battery for 20 minutes... no go. Some suggested holding your odometer button in Key Position 1, then move to position 2 while continuing to hold... no go. Some suggested using your OBD reader... no go (I assume only the DICE/ViDA can do this).

Do I really need to go to the dealer and drop $90 on the silliest of oversights, or is there some magic key to this? I figured my generic OBD reader could solve this, but there's no code other than my headache-inducing P0303.

As always, any suggestions are much appreciated :)

You need VIDA or a bi-directional scanner, I had an Autel Elite ($240) that was capable but VIDA was better.
Paying a mechanic to clear codes is lost money.
Get VIDA on a stick $100 (USB) and a DICE. $150
A cheap laptop and you're good.

Disconnecting battery before any electrical work is a safety and cost protective step.

SRS codes will not clear with battery disconnects or other hardware interventions, software intervention is needed.

i got an "icarsoft i906" before i got VIDA and it clears SRS codes, its very easy just plug and play. Fairly sure it gets rid of the SER-VICE warning light the key trick is for that not the SRS warning, nothing but a code reader/VIDA gets rid of that.

$85 on Amazon, Autophix ES610, reads and clears codes for Volvo. I used it to clear my SRS warning.

Thanks folks, looks like I'm buying a second OBD scanner.

I'm feeling increasingly silly as I knew better than to not unhook the battery, yet didn't do it when a written guide and a video as well did not mention it. Woohoo!

My 07 XC70 has the "SRS Airbag Service Urgent" message after a recent a fuel pump replacement. I knowingly connected the battery and checked the fuel pump for operation while the rear seats were still out, expecting I could just reset the ensuing SRS warning using VIDA/DiCE.

I cleared all codes in VIDA the standard way and the two SRS codes went away. However the text message still shows and the yellow triangle is still illuminated.

Is there somewhere (else) in VIDA to reset the SRS fault? Could someone please narrate the path within VIDA, where to click/look?

what codes is it showing when scanned, it might be over the srs limit.
faults are recorded in the ecm but if over the max resets the srs code is set in the srs module but can be cleared by various companies remotely.
try yagger.

So for whatever reason, tonight VIDA sees and reports the SRS codes it didn't find last night. So the codes again match up with the text message.

Even better, VIDA can now also clear the SRS codes as expected. It worked first try and extinguished the text message and triangle light. Problem solved for now, hopefully it stays that way.

Codes were:
SRS--0074 Seat belt tensioner; left rear Resistance too high
SRS--007C Seat belt tensioner; middle rear Resistance too high
SRS--0084 Seat belt tensioner; right rear Resistance too high

Resistance too high = unplugged.
I did the exact same thing first week I owned it, fixed the leaking fuel pump and connected the battery to test it, duh.
call it a win and run with it.
