Bought a new car

Have been driving the 850 since I was 15 (now 42). Today I bought a new car. Will keep the 850 and semi-restore as time permits.

This. This right here, folks. This is why we love Volvos. That is an amazing run. Wheels, any times during that span did you have a 2nd car?

So I first drove it when I was 15, it was the first car I drove, and learned on it. I had a different car in college from 2000-2003 when my parents deeded me the 850. But was full time after that.

It left me stranded exactly once, when the lower radiator hose blew out in front of an import shop in a small town in NC. Guy only charged me $100. The cam sensor was leaking oil and over time it wore the rubber hose away. That was my first learning moment on "preventative maintenance" .

Back then my parents paid roughly $32,000 for the car IIRC. That's about $65k today. I have to remember that when comparing the two cars (Mav vs 850).

I was so proud of it for so long. I took great care of it. Over the past few years, the paint has failed and dings are starting to add up. It's really sad. If I had unlimited money, I would have a shop do a full restore and make it a 2023 850. Man, wouldn't that be something!!

Honestly, if you had the room, you could buy a few of them and keep yours running literally forever for next to no money. They are such great cars. I just returned from a 400 mile trip in it, my last one, and still loved driving it.

Yep, hybrid, took 380 days from order to delivery, but I paid MSRP mins $750 from a discount program I just randomly qualified for. The one on the lot was $10k more than I paid, for the same vehicle, and a guy was coming down to buy it as I drove away.

I definitely won't be keeping the Maverick nearly as long. If I get 8-10 years out of it, I'll be happy. But resale value should always be high on it.
