well with heavy heart i drove the volvo to the mot station with the evil thing still glowing away and taunting me(abs light) i have no choice i need the car legal and have come to the end of my tether trying to fix the evil thing,going to be a shock i know having to pay someone else to hopefully fix it,the car drives very smoother with the axle mountings attached securely again.
i have no doubt the rest will pass i just pray i can afford to pay to get it back!

that 4 wheel alignment is costly but i guess it is sensible though im certain it all lined up nice with the witness marks but will find out as they do a print out of results,had to leave it there and hope they can fit it in as there very busy and i missed my slot due to finding the broken axle mount,fingers crossed,peace all

The struts are the originals from 1998. Probably didn't help the car sat for 10 years in a garage! Car has now got about 110,000 miles on it.
RHF front strut was toast and it's top spring mount almost 100% torn!! LHF was almost as bad but at least had some compression resistance.

Good to know about the 850 OBD2 software. I did have the issue of it freezing and having to reconnect. Mind you, I also had a similar issue with my Autel 800 series. It would not read the Vin# and you had to enter the generic info each time it froze. It did give 2 emissions codes, but would not allow further investigation and froze. At that point I ran out of time. At least I was able to reset the service reminder.

Abscate posed a question as to whether or not a higher quality CV axle could be cobbled together by searching for parts with compatible spline shafts. Has anyone actually done this?

Congrats on the successful recovery. I still get annoyed every time I order a part I know for a fact was still in good condition on the 97 GLT when it went to the scrapyard.

I replaced the ABS unit on Ingrid the S70 yesterday with a Midwest ABS rebuilt one. But because I didn't remember how the connector comes off I broke off the little pins inside the cap that move the slide latches. And it took me until I re installed it to figure it out, because now I had to slide those latches separately into position for the connector to seat. So dumb

. I guess this should go in the bloopers thread.

I have a confession to make.

After some research i have come to terms that messing up the mixture of coolant to water after applying a head gasket treatment led to the demise of my much beloved wagon. I looked at the pulley today and it took damage from the -33 C night when the engine block froze. This resulted in the bearing being mis seated and eventually exploding. I had a slow coolant leak which i noted 3 days prior to the sudden death and placed it as a low priority fix.

We build this forum on honesty, and a little bit of stupidity

Can say i wont make that mistake again.

I have confession too lol.

I felt embarrased at tire shop during summer as i went like somewhere +30 min before closing time.

Office guy yelled to come in and ask to change tires and i chose brand i liked personally as they had those (spoiler alert.. they had run out just).

While sitting there the guy who changing there comes ask "is there any last minute calls?" Oh no i felt myself as he was talking of me now.. The office guy after 10 seconds shouts back to him as he left walking after asking it.. "Hey, here is one!" Oh i felt again that funny feeling that i came wrong time.

Gets order of tires etc.. they then after throrough search comes conclusion they don't have them so this office guys decides go pick up these tires from some warehouse.. this felt like 15-20 min wait was painful to me as i knew i now delayed their work day..

Finally then tire change guy tries start my Volvo its alarm wents off (thankfully i don't have sounds activated.. but i noticed from blinking lights) as he used only the hard key not the Volvo remote to turn off alarm.

Anyway in the end i got new set of tires and pro tip dont engage alarm in such cases. Thanks for tire shop and hope they had good day neverthless after late minute people like me (it was friday if i remember correctly and next day i had to drive longer trip).

It was their choice to do the work. They could have said no. Their service however was excellent and good on them for stepping up to get the work done for you.
