2002 V70 2.4T

Post by KidsV70 »

Folks,
I’ve got a weird one. The AC suction hose blew out on the Volvo. I was unable to find a replacement hose, so I had my hose repaired by a local hydraulic shop. I go to install the hose on the back of the compressor, but it won’t go on. The way the hose block is clocked, the hose Hass to be at approximately the 8 o’clock position to install but the radiator fan shroud makes that impossible. I thought the guy had accidentally lengthened the hardline part of the hose so I had him shorten it by an inch, and it fits better, but still not correctly. Plus it’s rammed up against the shroud so any engine movement risks damage/leaks/etc. What gives? And how best to fix it? Pictures of a new hose on the FCP. Euro site look just like mine….

A bit more context: this hose has been repaired multiple times (prior to my ownership), and the car has had some front end damage, also in the past.

I know the bolt there is wrong, it’s just helping to keep the hose in place for the picture.

I think he may have use the incorrect length in the hard line elbow. He can either find a shorter one or cut off a section.

Things are tight in there. If you lose a few cm of clearance from damage OE parts aren’t going to fit. You will have to measure and make custom hoses in this case, or fix the frame damage

Thanks, guys! I’m going to take a look at that video, and yeah, custom hoses has to be the plan.

Does anyone have a measurement for the length of the aluminum pipe after the 90 degree bend? Like from the bottom of the pipe to the bottom of the crimped area? Don’t go to any trouble; like abscate says, it’s tight in there! It would be nice to know how far off it was. Next time, I will measure the hardlines or make templates before sending them for repair.

I’m pretty sure he used my original hard lines. FWIW

Double check. Regardless there seems to be enough length to shorten if the hose was made using the method in the video.
