Yikes, quite the day!
Didn't spend any time directly on any of the cars, but decided that as I have many rusty parts pulled from the junkyard, they need to be cleaned and stored off my work benches.
I remembered I have a tabletop blast cabinet still brand new and in it's box. No idea how long I have had it, but safe to say, more than 5 years! I dragged it out of the box, discovered the 3 lines of instructions were next to useless and went on line to try to find better info. I found enough to assemble it, but had to rig a air hose to it to try to test it out. Something I was staggered by is what the manufacturer and suppliers are asking for this unit now. Close to $500 US!! I'm certain I paid no where near the current price!
Ordered the one part I needed for a safe user experience from Amazon, and tomorrow if time allows (Canadian Thanksgiving!) I hope to get the unit set up and see if my ancient (30+) year old compressor (used once in the last 25 years) still works and can supply enough air capacity.
Now maybe I will pull out the parts cleaner I have in a box and used once in the last 30 years............!
Neil.

Second the low voltage codes. A buddies VW acted similar after a reverse battery spat. Resetting all codes and recalibrating steering fixed the issues.bmdubya1198 wrote: ↑06 Oct 2023, 13:57Chryslers are known for issues with the TIPM, so that could have been damaged somehow. I would start by clearing codes on all of the modules though. Hopefully it's just related to the low voltage.ZionXIX wrote: ↑06 Oct 2023, 11:50 Last night was interesting. While I'm at work on shift, the wife calls to tell me her 3yr old truck will not start at Target. Luckily she's just down the street from me. So I hop in my xc90 to go get her and when try to shift out of park the gear knob button made a *crunch* noise and dissolved. With a bit of fiddling I was able to move it into gear and then heard another *crunch*. Now I'm limited to drive and neutral. So I thought "cool, I just won't park unless I can pull forward". So off to rescue the wife. I get there and of course still can't shift into park. So neutral and parking brake it is. While leaving the car running I quickly determined the wife's truck is F***** so decided to take her back with me to work so I could finish the shift. Only had an hour or so left anyway.
Got back to work and realized if I shut the car off, the key is now stuck in position 1 and still can't shift into park. So neutral and parking brake again, pulled the battery cable so I could finish my shift.
After work I get back to working on the shifter so we can at least get home. It's also pitch black outside with the wife holding her phone light.
*Father son flashlight holding vibes*
We start tearing into the the shifter assembly, removed the plastic shroud and start fighting with a plastic cover that is very well attached to the rest if the assembly. 3 youtube videos and many swear words later we get it apart abd discover the "claw" mechanism around the shifter has imploded abd jammed itself in various places Ripped all that out and now we can finally shift. You just have to manually move the park "lock" up/down when shift out if park. Success! We are back on the road and our relationship has survived another trial.
Back to the wife's truck. It's being hella wierd. Will crank for 2/10 of a second and just give up. Screens are acting wierd, it's just chaos everytime she tries to start it. I originally thought the immobilizer tripped but this was too random. I tested the battery and only had 10.5volts. Definitely not enough for a V8 ram. So ran to parts store that was still open, swapped out for the best battery they had, "superstart", definitely not feeling confident in that one. It works! The truck starts, although nothing works, only blowing heat, no reverse camera etc. So will have to investigate the electrical. We had a huge storm the night before so maybe something got wet. I've never had 2 vehicles simultaneously break on me. What a wierd night.

Well it kinda is because it doesn't fix it. It just plugs the hole for a while. Please don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's all lies, it worked fine for me and I recommend to anyone in a similar position as mine. I drove 200km in 2 legs yesterday and everything was fine (although I was paying more attention to the temp gauge than at the traffic), and the car has gained the right to have thermostat once again (it was running cold for the first time since I bought it), but new redline is 3k rpm, top speed is 120kmh and so it will be until it falls apart, because I don't have the heart to sell it as "repaired" or the money to do it properly
It also did a funny thing last week where the temp gauge would jump to red, stay there for 2 seconds and then drop to nothing, and slowly go back to 3 o'clock again. No idea what it was, first time I thought I was imagining things. It happened 2 more times and then stopped doing it. Coolant level was normal and no boiling sound on the expansion tank.
If anyone has a clue what that was, please report:)

My old 240 had the same strange behavior on the temperature gauge. The root cause was rotted (biodegradable) wiring insulation, which allowed the temperature sensor wiring to short against other powered wires in the harness in the engine bay. On my 240, this eventually burned out the coil in the temperature gauge.

Today I 'repaired' the busted rubber radiator mount on the driver's side on my 850 by using a fender washer under the rubber to give it more support. The mount was split by hitting the underneath side of the car on the surface of a steep driveway.

I realized we were at 10K since the last oil change on her 855 (Been kinda busy lately) so I took care of that today after work. Some fresh LiquiMoly and a filter.
While I was under the car, I noticed that both DS CV boots have failed and started to sling gunk around. Looks like I'll be doing that tomorrow after work. Luckily I have a fresh axle in the garage, so that will just go in.

Got the DS axle swapped today. I really hate trying to get the axle dislodged from the trans when both boots are split and grease is everywhere...

Axle grease is a mess... makes everything more of a pain. I like to use an indexing pry bar to get back there, that usually helps pop it out a little easier.

Someone was selling a new FVP(?) set for cheap. I needed a PS one for my 854, so I bought it. I had just stuck the DS one in the garage for future use. Didn't figure "future" was only going to be about a week later.
The DS one is good, but the inner on the PS one is a little noisy, so I'm going to need to check over the 3 PS axles I have in the garage and put together a good one from all of them. It was the rattle that was bugging me about the old one.
We have a trip to take this weekend in her car, and I didn't want to put 1500 miles on the car with two bad CV boots.
