I️ have a 98 fwd, NA, m56 volvo that I️ was wondering how difficult realistically it would be to swap in a turbo motor? Just pondering…

Much easier than adding a turbo to an NA motor!

You will need a tune or an ECU a that supports a turbo motor , of course

That’s sort of what I️ was thinking, is it possible to swap both the motor and ecu from the same vehicle into my own? Or would it still need to be sent out for tuning?

I believe that the wiring harness under the hood is different from turbo to NA. That is probably the reason most don't attempt it.

Wiring harnesses are different. If you are determined to try it, at least you are using a manual car. I had a friend looking at trying this on a 2000 S70 NA to turbo but that is just mind blowing to do.

Having said that. There was a guy here in Alberta selling a 850 NA manual with a 850R motor in it. I never asked him if it ran though!
