04 S60 Fix has me at wits end

Post by Bblessed740 »

"New" member but I've utilized these forums countless times. Need some real-time input this time tho. Long story short, car was fine and not showing any signs of issues... over a month ago I went to leave and started car only to have it run for perhaps 30 seconds and then stall out. :?: fired right back up but then same thing. I gave it throttle and even still it would stutter and stall. Code read for fuel regulator. I assumed it was the filter but couldn't find it in line so I replaced the fuel pump assembly that seemed to include a filter in it. Car ran longer afterwards but would stall when idle dropped or when put in gear. So I changed fuel pressure sensor. Same thing...ran better longer but wouldn't drive or stay running indefinitely. Noticed at this time the load was at 70 percent at idle so I checked the PCV system...definitely seemed heavily restricted. So I changed the oil trap. I also removed the PCM and opened it up. Tons of corrosion. So I cleaned it out completely and replaced it. Same problem persists. I suppose my next move is to replace it with a new one but I still wonder if there is an in line filter that I haven't found. In front of the pass rear tire...not there where all the videos show. Any suggestions?

Oh and the oil trap change made a HUGE difference with the vacuum felt at the filler cap so that at least was a positive result

When this happens with my 00 S70 it turned out to be the ignition switch. I mentioned on another post just now I may have taken it apart and cleaned it. There may have been a tutorial somewhere showing how to remove and what the problem is. Any who, mine has only done this once in around 6 months and that was last week. Almost forgot what the issue was. Took two starts and hasn't occur again, yet .

It's a slow fade when it begins to happen. I ordered a PCM(pem) unit to replace the one I have. I cleaned a ton of corrosion out of it but maybe it was too far gone. Should b here in a few days. It ran good for like 5 or 6 minutes while it was idling and I was having the radiator flush do its thing but then I heard it start to miss just slightly and I was like aw no. It slowly began to stutter more and more and then died. Fires right back up each and every time tho. Just doesn't wanna stay running. We'll see how she acts when I replace the PCM

I'm gonna have my buddy with his reader come over today after work and see what it throws. It'll throw the downstream o2 sensor code but tbh that's been on since I bought the car. I'll update after the read

Waaaait....I just noticed that the old readings from a year ago and the new stuff had another discrepancy that I didn't catch at first. Th old read had a load of 19% a fuel pressure of 55psi and a MAP of 9 inHg. The last reading I took on the car once having this issue read a load of 69%(due to pcv clogged I assume) a fuel pressure of 43psi but I just noticed that the MAP on my last read was at 29 inHg..... I'll update once I get a scan done.

If you have PEM, read the fuel pump duty cycle. Anything 50% or above you can go ahead and replace the fuel pump.

I'm confused that you said the "code read fuel regulator," but it seems you replaced everything but that. Fuel pressure regulator?

I have to agree with "Black bart" on that one, the fuel pressure regulator on the end of the fuel rail is probably the issue all along.
