The swap for 850's to V70 is common. The 850's tended to get weak springs quickly. I then added the helper springs but they improved slightly but if you used bar blades they tended to lift on the ends. On our 93, the arm would actually catch the hood on opening.

My brother was complaining about the juddering and poor sweep cover on his 97 850, so I took a set of 98-00 V/S/C 70 arms down to him. He finally got around to swapping them and said he saw an immediate improvement as well as the driver's side sitting lower.

The other thing I have found over the years is the slowing of the wipers. Removing the motor and linkage, I usually find the passenger side spindle is in good shape, but the driver's side is always corroded or dirty and corroded. Giving the spindles a really good clean out and gentle use of find sandpaper/emery on the driver's side corrosion, followed by a large dollop of synthetic grease restores operations significantly.

Another hack is to swap the sprayers on a V/S/C 70 for P2 sprayers which again improve the spray coverage hugely. Not tried that with an 850 as I would have to see how they are fitted.

I think what happened was that I had compacted snow or ice under the area of travel on the driver's side, and that bent the arm. Comparing the new and OEM there was a significant difference.

So a right and left, used on their labeled side? I read quite a few people using a S/V70 passenger side arm on the driver's side of the 850.

My 850 definitely doesn't have as smoothly operating system as my S70. The wipers/washers, on the 70, have impressed me from the first day of ownership.

Thankfully the splined shafts weren't all that dirty. I quickly brushed them with a wire brush to clean them up. I did not go as far as digging into the guts below the plastic cowl.

I also removed and tried adjusting the passenger side down, and got it done nicely. Then I realized the arm could contact the hood, and adjusted it back up twice, so it's back where it was originally. I could lower it a bit, as the 2nd time moving it up didn't actually add any more clearance.

It'll be fine for now. It's definitely an improvement.

I had already done that with some some ProParts, nozzles. They didn't work all that well. I replaced those today with some aftermarket nozzles which are better.... not S70 level better, but still better. I think I have a bad check valve in the system and possibly a leak. It takes forever for the washer's to prime, and I go though fluid quite quickly. On my S70 I get washer fluid immediately. It also could be headlight washers. I think they're disconnected on the 70, so full pressure is going to the windshield.

There are various check valves in the P80 windshield/headlight wash system. They are very simple affairs with a rubber diaphragm. They can block or the diaphragm can split and leak. The one for the headlight washers is a T-piece and and if it leaks it drains the system.

Can't see why you could not add an extra check valve to keep water at the upper end.

Robert has been putting 70 series passenger arms on 850s for years. He has a vid on how to bend the old ones back into sorta working shape, takes a decent vise and some finesse with large tools.

Speed Warning was activated only for market areas which required Speed Warning so Japanese and Saudi i think only(?) which why if it was seen it came via imports only as stock and installed. It can be programmed chime in kmh 32 up to 284 kmh (284kmh = disabled).

How to retrofit buzzer for 850 models

If you are going 284kmh in a Volvo, a buzzer would be the least of your worries.

Continued cataloguing all the smaller parts today. Still only about 4 trays in out of 60? However, hopefully it will get easier as the larger trays have less stuff in them.

Today it was under hood relays. Man it was frustrating as they had different part numbers, some which come up on Vida and some on internet. Strangest part is some cross referenced to the same part, but used in different applications??

I seem to have cornered the market in fuel pump relays, but the strange thing is one is Green and not Red we are used to. Both marked 'Volvo', different part numbers but listed as fuel pump relays??

Same with the small black 'J' relay which is in the fuse box by the windshield. There is a gray relay with a different part number in the kidney shaped fuse box with a different part number but they cross reference as the same part?

I'll try to find time to throw the part numbers up here in a thread and support with pictures.
