door latch actuator xc70 2006

Post by madeesawnv »

i replaced my lock cylinder a while back and it works as expected, but in the process i had unclipped the actuator rods for the latch and the lock. itll be fine for a while until one day the latch actuator will pop out. since there is only one lock on the whole car, i have to break into my own car relatively often. its easy enough to pop it back into place once i am in my car, but this is very frustrating when im not at home and have to scavenge for things that i might be able to break into my car with. i do not have a remote, and i make sure it is very snug when reattaching actuator rod.

any advice? thank you!

Not sure what's going on but a couple of pictures may help. You have a couple of rods from the door handle and lock going to the door latch/lock module and these rods press into blue spring clips. From your problem description it sounds like the latch rod is coming loose from the spring clip or the door handle end, is this correct? How are you breaking into the car and how are you reattaching the actuator rod once you're inside the car though? The inner panel needs to be removed to get to these rods. I'm missing something here.

You can see the grooves in the rods, which is the area of the rod that pushes into the clips and is adjustable.

Right side are the blue spring clips the rods push into.

the latch rod pops out of the blue clip, on the clip end. the lock rod has never had an issue. i break into the car typically with anything that i can pry the door with, so that its slightly ajar, and a thin metal object(ie. fly swatter/lawn sign stakes) to press the unlock button, so i can open the door from the passenger side. then i take the door trim panel off and pop the rod back into the blue clip.

If the latch rod is popping off the blue clip then it's likely bent, the fingers that provide the tension to hold the rod in place or maybe even one of the hook ends. Next time you have the door panel off take a careful look at the blue clip for any damage or bent parts. It's hard to see those clips with the door lock/latch module installed so an inspection mirror and flashlight would be good to have on hand. You might have to pull the door latch/lock out to fix the clip if bent.
