2005 XC70 - P0600, ABS lights, gear shift clicking

Post by towler73 »

Hi, I have a 2025 XC50, 160K miles, that has been suffering from electrical problems. Sometimes all is fine, but other times I get various error codes. I think it's all around the CAN bus. The latest problem has the following symptoms:

- I turn the car on
- I hear a clicking sound coming from the gear shifter, erratic not steady. I think it's the shift lock engaging and disengaging.
- ABS lights go on and there is a message that brakes have a problem, stop the car.
- I see a P0600 code when I scan

So here's the funny thing, when I plug in my OBD Wifi doggle in the ODB port, the problem stops. Right now, the plan is to drive with doggle in place. I would like to fix this properly as my teenage daughter drives this car.

Thanks,
Brett

Your one high speed Can Bus module has broken end resistors i would say by that diagnose.

ECM and ABS has end resistors on Can Bus (correct me if i am wrong of this year model as i writing top of head).

I would say your connector on ABS which is press fitted and not soldered has become problematic over the decades (there was this movement how Volvo did ABS modules.. once again my head information of exact year can throw by couple). When you get this problem go try wiggle the big connector of ABS if problem goes away.

P.s. ELM is capable to read f its good one directly ABS module too on P2 models like on Vida.

Thanks for giving me a direction. I found a bunch of other posts about the end resistors. I’ll do some more research.
