94 850 suspension job

Hey everyone, I just finished installing new front struts and related hardware, all oem.

Drivers side went smoothly but passenger side was more difficult to get the knuckle lined up and the bolts in. It’s almost like the wheel hub assembly didn’t want to move into place and I didn’t have room to move the strut assembly.

Once I got them in, I lifted the whole assembly into place and I noticed I had to push it towards the body of the car to get it to line up correctly at the top mount.

It all went back together okay, and I’ll be taking it in for an alignment this week as I did the tie rods and control arms before this as well. In the meantime, does anyone have an idea what could be off on the passenger side and what to check?

It is possible to overextend the inner CV joint on the axle. Check it has not pulled out of the metal portion. Another thing to check would include check that the axle and hub splines have no build up on them. Volvo used to use a glue type product to stop the splines clicking. If that is still on there it will make re-seating the axle a challenge.

I use a sharp pick to run up and down the splines to make sure there is no residue.

Last thing is to check the ABS sensor is not catching on the tone/reluctor ring and the dust seal behind the hub is not damaged.
