Fuel door hinge/spring image

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

Fuel door hinge/spring image

Post by wolfspiritky »

Can someone please email me or post a pic of their S80 fuel door hinge?

I fueled up this morning and heard a pop when I opened the fuel door. Now it just flaps in the wind. I never paid any attention to it before. Now that it is broken I'm not sure what I'm looking at. It is different from the one on my 850's...I did look at them. Not sure what or where it broke.

Here are some pics from my car. As you can see, the spring is supposed to be held by two plastic clips, but on my car, the top one has broken off. I suspect I'll be in the same boat as you as soon as the bottom clip breaks off of mine - there will be nothing to hold the spring and the door will be flopping around. I'm thinking of gluing a magnet to the door near the finger opening to keep the door closed when the clip breaks.

Top clip snapped off:

Bottom clip still there:

chances are your spring is still attached. The plastic hinge runs about $14 from the dealer and is a 5 minute install. Replace the hinge before your door falls off! This happened to mine but luckily the retaining strap help until my wife could stop and pull it off.

Spring was still attached. Called the dealer and he said he had a load of them.....$8.36 and 2 minutes. DONE!!

Thanks for your pics. I couldn't see where those two tabs that the spring attaches to had broken. Guess I need to be honest with myself and start wearing those damn glasses more often  .

Damn this getting old $hit!!

I decided to change my door hinge before it was too late.

I loaded a tutorial of how to do it. You can view it here:
