Oil change. Auto trans dump and fill. It only took 3 qt, 8 oz. Anyway, the transmission seems smoother now. Could be my imagination.

I added one quart of 0W-40 oil to my 2002 V70 to bring level back up. Odometer is at 242250, I had changed @ 240K miles. So that works out to burning 1 quart around every 2250 miles, which I would think is pretty good for a 21 year old car with that many miles. What do the experts say.
Is there anything I can do to reduce this, valve guide seals perhaps or should I be happy with that. I see no evidence of any leaks.
Thanks for weighing in.

0.5q per kmile is not great, but a commonality with these engines.

I just happened upon this video on the 0W-40 Mobil product. I thought it interesting that their info on direct injected engines showed this oil performed badly. My owners manual recommends 5W-30 for my 2004.

Yes, one quart of Swepco at time of oil change with a 5W-40 instead 0W-40 will not only lessen oil consumption but will also make the car quieter and buttery smooth. Have used this on several cars including a 98 S70 T5 with 240K.

I started using M1 in the mid 90's from the recommendation of my Service Manager at Pepboys. Back then it took sometime for info about M1 to get around as you had to read it or from people who worked on cars. Lost 3 head gaskets over a period of time and finally figured out it was the M1 Synthetic. After years of not using it saw the 0W-40 on sale at Costco so tried it. None of cars liked it and the lower end groaned badly during passing.

When discussing problems with head gasket leaks from synthetics you'll find M1 in the discussion.

I don't like it at all. Second oil change (OCI 2300 miles) after engine rebuild (4700 miles), when oil sump was hot tanked, clean and shiny:

Found mobile 1 synthetic was slightly louder in my partners car (old Acura with 320k km) than using penzoil ultra.

Time to change over the plush carpet mats for my winter rubber mats/trays. Sadly the rubber mats/trays are no longer available but I managed to find these well used ones which required a lot of work to get them into the shape they are now

That's fake photos! Too clean to be true! Likely AI-generated or something.
