Folks live 10 minutes from the LKQ. Just saw it a couple of months ago after driving 70 for these many years .
.
It's worth a stop! Any LKQ yard usually has a decent selection, but occasionally high prices.

Loaded a full tank for the first time since getting it. Coming from the red band it only loaded around 60L before stopping the pump and seems to be at the appropriate point on the gauge. Any common reason for it to stop the pump early? Maybe in a couple months I'll see if it happens again.

Anyways, off to try and replace the speedometer and odometer gears.

A plugged evap system will kickoff the pump early

But, red band taking 60 liters only isn’t far off

Don’t run these cars below 1/8 in summer and 1/4 in winter. 1/4 all year if you are a dumb donkey like Me

It's not far off but it was on the "right" part of the gauge for 60L

Freon needed refilling, along with an engine wash. Apparently I have a fan relay that goes intermittent when hot which led to the refrigerant getting purged or at least that's what the best guess was.

Also observed that the distributor cover (black plastic on the right, over the distributor.) is missing a gasket and the bolts, but the plastic itself won't allow it to be bolted in anymore. Is this accurate? I'm still looking for the best place to see parts diagrams.

It's probably warped from being over tightened. The cover just slips over the actual distributor, usually with some locking rings to secure the screws to the assembly.

If you plan to wash the engine bay, cover the distributor with a plastic bag to prevent water leaking into it.

Well so much for my planned 3-4 days for organizing and cataloguing all the smaller parts in the 'stash'. I am now into week 4? and feel the end of this process is never coming! :(

Having got the R into it's winter sleeping quarters, I believed it would not give me access to the bins I had already completed, but thankfully I was wrong. I have probably pulled most of them back out and in a couple of times as I find the same parts in other places.

The last 3 days has finally got me back to the more 'accessible' but larger bins. I had hoped these would be quicker as there are in theory more parts but less part numbers. I also though most of the parts are of a recent acquisition timeline that they would be mostly cleaned and organized. Sadly I am delusional!   The first bin was brake parts. Overflowing, it has now become the original bin, 3 small bins and a mid-sized bin, and yet the original is still full???

As of this evening, I am now down to 18 bins left to complete. Even once those are completed, I then have I don't know how many items then to enter into my spreadsheet stock list. I am really questioning why I started this process!!

Oh, and I still have more un-identified parts that I will post for identification once I have finished the bins. You guys have not escaped this either!!

When I really thoroughly washed my engine bay, I removed the distributor and power washed where it sits. The distributor is so simple, that I think removing it is easier than trying to not get it wet, in place. The design of the top of the engine makes it really easy to drown the plugs too, which I found the hard way. Since they were all wet already, I decided to clean up the plug wells with the pressure washer, or maybe it was just the hose. Then I used my shop vac to suck the water out, and then compressed air to get the rest. I may have gotten out my leaf blower too.

I had the engine wash done at a shop I've trusted for years along with the a/c. Turns out the previous owner goes to them too, so now I have some service records for 2019 to now, which is gonna come in useful for the next part:

Speedometer and odometer don't work and it isn't the little gear. Front right speed sensor was replaced in 2021 and the problem wasn't pursued any further. Any ideas?
