Preface
I'm not a mechanic. Nor could I play one on TV. Even if my life depended upon it. Everything I know I learned from Volvo forums and YouTube. (Which ain't much).
I just finished replacing the right front wheel hub bearing & CV axle on my 06 XC90 2.5t (fwd) Tthis is brand new territory for me,, but I thought I did a good job.. Granted, I had to rewatch a half dozen videos, study a few parts diagrams AND endure my a$$hole husband's endless, sexist commentary from his lazy boy....but again, thought I did great until I attempted to take it for a test drive. ......DENIED! I can't get it out of park!.(FYI, it started & shifted without any issues, just a week ago).
I'm assuming Ive done something very wrong.
Hoping one (or more).of you would be so kind as to help me troubleshoot this?. I'm. In no serious hurry-as my husband already started his childish, in-your-face, end zone shuffle.
ANY advice will be greatly appreciated.
Help! New CV axle....now it won't shift at all

Good on you for giving it a shot. Wheel bearing and CV shaft are both DIY territory. Driver side CV shaft can be tricky with the circlip to get it out and slid/locked back in.
My main concern would be having had something fall into the transmission. Can you verify the circlip is still on your old shaft you removed? Some questions:
Will the shifter move out of park?
Or does the transmission shift but the XC90 just doesn’t move?
If you move the transmission to neutral with the front tires off ground will the wheels spin freely?
Hoped you get it sorted soon.

Cheers to you for doing the job. That isn't an easy job for newer DIYers.
It may be a coincidence due to the age, but can you hear the gear lever lock disengage when you press the brake pedal? The solenoid can go bad over time. You might also see it called the shift interlock solenoid and can easily find it through search and YouTube.
Also, check that you can see the brake lights go on when you press the brake pedal. A brake light switch could also go bad with age and use...on any vehicle.
Good luck
