Re: Does anyone repair ECC modules?
You canβt just publish a site and tell people to read the directions and then capture the cash in garbage bins?

That is a shame as many of us have you to thank for ABS module repairs on our cars, I have had several for different cars over the years.
Many thanks to you and a Happy New Year!
Neil.

Post a picture of the diode and board damage. Usually the damage does not penetrate that deep into the board and corrosion can be cleaned up with flux and wick. I have one volvo with an ECC in it and it shows the flashing lights. Ive torn apart MCC's and resoldered them with success so i do not see why the same would not work with ECC's. PS replacing the bulbs with 12V LED's in the MCC make for a much brighter experience.plr7285 wrote: β02 Jan 2024, 12:39 I am attempting to repair an ECC for a '93 Volvo 850 by replacing the blown capacitors. bought an ECC from a junkyard; however it is also has same blown capacitors - though burn is minimal to circuit board. I have a question about a T3GZ diode near the four capacitors that have burned up on the two ECC's I have. On both of my boards, one leg of this T3GZ diode is not connected to the circuit board. I am thinking both legs of the diode should be connected and perhaps the leg became disconnected due to heat? related to the capacitors burning. My friendly volvo parts man gave me a printout showing that only only four ECC's will work in a '93 unless you can get different wire harness. I have 9137402, could also use 6847529, 9144254 or 9144353. Has been hard to locate these part numbers.

I'm a middle-aged dude trying to limit my contact with people, or at least what a lot of people have become.
It used to be a smooth operation up until maybe 5 years ago. That's when I really enjoyed doing it, people would order a module, replace it and send the old one back. Let's say I did 40 units a month and I'd spend maybe 2 hours a week dealing with people that had issues outside of that module. Most people were what we'd consider Volvo people. Reasonable, sensible people that were nice to deal with and talk to. Lots of good conversations.
Today... I do 10-20/month and spend four or more hours a week dealing with issues. That really isn't a problem in itself, the problem is that people want instant gratification. The part is bad and you replace it but then find out the problem isn't solved. You have any number of things that were also background issues contributing to the problem. People don't want to accept that, they don't know how to diagnose, they aren't willing to do it, learn or spend the money to do it.
And.. Half the people I deal with these days just picked up a cheap Volvo and don't know what they got themselves into. For those of us that are into these cars that's no big deal. They just don't have the knowledge or wallet for it. Some don't have the sense and are the types that run cars into the ground.
With the ECC's we (as in us) all know that when those lights blink that there's either an underlying issue or it's the ECC itself. We scan it with vol-fcr or whatever and find out what the issue is and address it. The others, as in "I got a really sweet deal on this Volvo" will replace the part because that's what the internet said, lights still blinking and won't accept that there are 20 possibilities as to why that is happening. Nor diagnose to find out why. They read a post on a Facebook group, it's then fact and they won't budge from that.
I always hear, above anything else is "This car is really clean though" when I try to explain that things fall apart from age. The fact that it's a 25 year-old car with mostly original parts just won't be taken into consideration because it's pretty. That's like dating a hot chick and not understanding why she's making your life hell. She's got issues regardless of what she looks like.

^ Cheers ! Cheers ! Very well stated, and applies to many aspects of working on these cars.
