2008 XC90 TPMS Receiver Module

Post by bguzz »

Does anyone know where the TPMS receiver is located? I've had all my TPMS sensors replaced, verified that the relearning procedure was done 3 times and it still doesn't work. I am interested in finding if the receiver is damaged or not connected properly, but can't find anything on where it is or what it looks like.

TPMS is managed by UEM which is located inside the rear view mirror. Really dumb system, looks for 4 unique sensor IDs received over a fixed period of time. If it sees them, the TPMS light goes out.

Can see this for my own flailing years ago trying to understand the system as well as means to troubleshoot- https://www.swedespeed.com/threads/tpms ... on.579857/

Sensors come in two frequencies, 315Mhz and 433Mhz and there are some models that are dual frequency. I am aware of a few typos in the documentation for a MY08 noting 433Mhz as the frequency when in fact it's 315Mhz (for the US). My TPMS tool (Autel TS408) has this error when you pull up a MY08.

Maybe have a read of the link and see if anything resonates.

I too have a 2008 and I looked mine up by VIN. The best way to know which sensor you need is to look it up by VIN. There was a switchover in 2008. Plug in your VIN at the link below.

Interesting response. See below screenshot from your suggested link for my own vehicle. I have 315Mhz TPMS with a #457560 chassis. Go figure.

Did you own your XC90 since new?

Looks like Continental is correct for me. I’m at 315Mhz for my 2008.

Solved my issue. It turns out the TPMS sensors were replaced with Autel dual frequency sensors. I had told the tire tech that I had researched the frequency and that mine was 315Mhz, not 433Mhz. He assured me that he was programming them using 315Mhz and the sensors were programmed but my vehicle was not acknowledging them. Hard to argue as the TPMS was being triggered for many months before I had new tires put on, likely due to 10+ year old sensors batteries.

I purchased an Autel T508 programmer cause I couldn't let this go. On reading my sensors they were all programmed at 433Mhz. I reprogrammed them to 315Mhz and all is perfect now. I think the key was the tire tech was trying to reprogram the sensors while the tires were fully inflated and maybe they wouldn't come off of 433Mhz. I pulled the valves to deflate the tires before programming them. I also did see on the Autel that it does give the option of 433Mhz for my 2008 Volvo...both from 2008 on and also for 2004 - 2014 (both the option for 315Mhz and 433Mhz)...so that's confusing as well.

Thanks for the help on this thread...this was eating at me for over a year. Finally solved.

This is exactly the reason that I'm the proud owner of a TS408 that I nearly never use.

Lol. The necessary evil of useful tools we rarely use. At least it’s still cheaper than going to a shop multiple times. Getting it right is priceless.

So a year later follow-up. My TPMS system with 4 recently replaced Autel MX TPMS Sensors has been coming on constantly even though I confirm my air pressure is good. I've tried various different pressures from 42psi to 32psi and nothing consistently worked and I kept getting random errors. I used my TS508 to verify that each wheel was active and at 315Mhz--reprogrammed them several times and had the tire shop try it three times as well. Got very frustrated and started assuming it was the UEM or its antenna. Then on a whim (or really from a swedespeed post by ggleavitt), I purchased some Redi Sensors (Continental) model SE10006...which are preprogrammed and you just need to run for 10 minutes above 30mph to register them. Immediately solved my issue--no more TPMS warnings. I don't know why, but for some reason, the Autel Mx-Sensors, which have dual programmable frequencies of 433Mhz and 315Mhz would simply not work with my car--even though I confirmed they were running 315Mhz. I'm hoping this might be helpful for someone else who needs to solve this.
