Stick to Bosch.
Or get the used Genuine coils from junk yard ($10/ea in my area). Test one by one (label them as "checked").
This way you know the used coil is ready to be used, if necessary.

I agree, I'd get Bosch not the IPD HD ones.

Used will likely work just fine to keep the car running but may not improve the smoothness like new will. I measured 10% improved mpg (!) with new Bosch coils on our 07 XC70, replaced preventively.

Yes!

My wife was driving the same out-of-town workplace every week for a couple months. MPGs went from 21.something to 23.something with solely swapping the coils. Same gas station, same route, same driver, across a few full tanks of gas.

Wow this is impressive. Been chasing a slight drop in mpg on my 08 and with 164k on the originals I may need to do coils.
abscate wrote: 09 Dec 2021, 05:33 For my vehicles that cruise 590 miles from home, warranty is useless. I’ve been stopped twice by coils going bad over 21 years, both of which were 100k miles plus Bosch or Volvo coils.

For my cruising cars, I replace them at 100k and then use the old ones in cars that don’t stray so far from home. Luckily I have 20 coils in circulation all of the same part number. I have also unloaded some for $10-15 or on the FDPP.

You should carry a spare used coil and spark plug in your tool kit if you have a coil on plug car.
This is great advice Abscate.

When I bought the kids 02 at 150k it had a slight misfire…at time I went cheap as I didn’t want to pour lots into it. At 40k with these (and Bosch plugs):

Likely will go Bosch this time.

You can get 5 of the bosch coils on rockauto for about $40 cheaper than other places like Fcpeuro. However, fcpeuro has free shipping and a lifetime warranty, so that might make it worth it.

I installed a set of Iridium plugs in our 03 Odyssey 90K miles ago. When first installed the van was silent and had improved power. Had two other friends installed in their Odysseys of the same vintage. I know for sure the mileage at one time was extremely good. Time to install another set as mileage hasn't been high for a couple years after we moved. Mostly city now and haven't really tracked it but probably due in part to the 245K miles. Oh my, that means OE coils!
.
Blessings,

Did my first drive on new coils today, still need to calculate but appears ~10% bump in mpgs like Erik. It’s a common 250 mile round trip I do regularly so a good comparison. 164k miles on origi coils.

I did go cheap with Denso coils, no issues this far and took the advice to put two of the old ones in the trunk should I be far from home and need one.

My regular 250 mile loop averaging around 65mph (some 55, some 65 limits) went from 28mpg to 31mpg. Been a while since I’ve seen it break 30 so that is a win.
