What’s the fastest way to remove an MCC?
Did you mean the "front panel" with the control knobs, fan speed slider, AC button & re-circulation button ? If yes then it is a time consuming process. When I replaced mine more than 1 year ago, I did :
1) removed the glove box
2) remove both knee boosters (driver side and passenger side). I did have hard time to remove the driver side one after removing the 3 bolts that holding the booster. But after a lots of wiggling (very hard) then it came loose. This step provide more room to disconnect the linkages of the temperature control and the vent output control from both sides of the knee boosters area.
3) removed the radio to get more room to "disconnect" the MCC control box (panel) from the radio opening.
4) disconnect the linkages to the flaps from both side of the MCC control box, under the steering column and under the glove box area. One temperature linkage on the glove box side and two linkages on the steering column sides for temperature and air vent control.
5) removed MCC control front panel and then the control box behind the panel.
6) once the MCC control box is loosen then remove it out from driver side steering column area and be very patient due to tons of wiring behind and around the MCC control box area !

I guess cars in junkyard may be easier because most of those parts could already be "removed" or "picked" by someone else. So the time consuming steps are to disconnect the linkages and to disconnect the MCC control box after the front panel is removed.

Hope this help.

Hi,

Went to the junkyard today, and guess what I found!!

I was amazed when I saw the part number on the case and 5 wire connector (2 are white and go to the same pin).

I opened the casing as I wanted to make sure the gears were still good. What a pain it is to open this unit!

I marked the teeth so I could refit in the same place so I could remove it to try to see the teeth under the circuit board. I did not want to try to remove the board as I could not easily see what was holding it in place. Pictures show at least the small gear under the hole is complete and what I can see of the other seems complete as well.

I will recheck the small gear wheel, as with the enlarged pictures there is what I believe is a hair (I own a dog!) on the wheel that looks like a crack. I will open it and use a magnifier to conform it is good!

I'm assuming this is what you are looking for? If so, PM and we can sort out shipping.

So opened it back up and it was a hair. Thought I got rid of it but can still see part of it. Darn! Anyway, looked under a magnifier and it is sound! That weirdness off where the teeth meet is just grease.
