Front suspension creak/groan noises

Post by tehniemer »

I just had my wheels balanced and rotated (unlikely related to this, but I noticed it for the first time immediately after), and I'm now hearing a creaking, groaning noise from the front driver side suspension at low speeds, I do not hear it above about 40mph. I took the wheel off and sprayed all the bushings I could see with a silicone lubricant spray but that didn't seem to fix the problem, I can't seem to pinpoint the location, I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this and if they were able to solve it?

I am having the exact same experience. With my 2018 V90 CC. After free wheel rotation at chain that installed my tires last.. Now I have identical creek and groan when rocking side to side. Also have low pitch short rattle noticeable over small imperfections in road at slow speeds.

I silicone sprayed all suspension joints and spring seat/isolator and the groaning eased noticeably. Still lurking and comes back. Only is recreatable with wheels straight.

Feels/sounds like rubber binding but cant isolate the cause. Rattle might be a balljoint or end link ball but all seems tight and intact. Also think it might be a control are bushing.

Any updates or resolution?

I just replaced control arms/ball joints/struts/spring seats on my 2004 v70. Spring seat was shot. This issue is much more subtle.

FIXED. Check the brake dust shield. Mine was just barely rubbing on the spring/shock assembly causing a groan that sounded like rubber on springs - thought it might have been a bad spring insulator. Took a bit of time but I found just pulling the top of the dust shield towards the outside of the car fixed the issue. I also had a bit of a knock that was related to that same shield.

Seems like the tech who rotated the wheels probably banged the top edge of the shield with the wheel when hosting it into place.
