2016 XC60 Shifter Park Lock Problem

Post by 69142S »

Hi, new here but I have owned half a dozen Volvo cars over the years starting with a 1969 142S that I bought wrecked. That was a great little car that I used and abused. It seldom broke, and when it did, it was pretty easy to fix.

I'm currently having a problem with a 2016 XC60. It won't shift out of Park on recent cold mornings. I located the port under the little tray behind the Control Panel, and am able to insert a screwdriver to depress the yellow manual release lever. After moving the shift lever once or twice, it is OK until the next cold morning. My wife spilled a coffee (cream and sugar) onto the center console and shift lever area about a month ago, and I'm assuming some must have gotten down in there and is gumming up the shift release solenoid.

So... it appears I am going to have to get in there to inspect, clean, lubricate, etc. I'm hoping someone here can tell what I need to remove to get access to the correct area, and how to remove those panels or parts to fix the issue. I've done some internet searching, and haven't had any luck finding instructions specific to this model and year. Thanks for any help you might provide. I'm hoping that I will also be able to share some of the things I've learned over the years.
