2000 S70 immobilizer bypass?

I'm tempted to buy a new key just so I'll have a spare. I would attempt to program it with the app mentioned above (which I already have). I bought a Bluetooth OBDII scanner (search Amazon for Bluetooth obdII scanner elm327 ) and bought/downloaded the 850 OBDII app from Google Play Store (about $4 I think?). Don't think you need internet access when using the app. Of course your situation is very different so I understand if you're hesitant and want to go the safe route and have it towed but then you would still need to have it programmed by somebody with Vida. Either way, please let us know if the new key comes with the PIN.

$80, ordered through an indie Volvo mechanic

Based on my research so far I agree I need the tow. No cell signal out there means DIY through legit VIDA isn't an option for me either since it needs to be online. That ELM YouTube vid does claim their technique works on 99-00 but without independent confirmation I don't trust it. Thanks for all the helpful replies all. Next time I'll get a '98

I had a 98 S70 T5. Prefer that 4 speed but no curtain bags. The current 00 S70 is just fine though it's a base model. There was a locksmith at Costco a couple of years back and he told me it would be around $120 for a key and programming for our 03 S80 T6, if my memory serves me right? Have you called a local locksmith as it's just the chip in the key that needs to be programmed.

I have not. If I can get a key that's ready to be programmed and I have the PIN I can do it with the 850 OBDII app.

That works up to amd through MY 1998

In 1999 ( build 09-1998 onwards) that combo will not work

Well i guess world first then?
Added fourth chip in memory.

Under part number year and week. 05 year and this is from C70.


P.S. just joking about world first as Volvo did license functionality for third parties too SnapTools, Autel etc... but sure you jump once again PIN code requirement if not use Vida as it gets that information automatically from Volvo Servers when you do subscription.
This is absolutely not the only way and locksmiths prefer go direct ( faster when not know PIN nor not knowing how generate keys without IMMO memory so that IMMO accepts them when doing OBD learning ) way making keys using tools to generate working key etc..

I just sent through this with a 1999. As abscate mentioned, the engine will not run over 3 seconds with the new key.
In my case I removed the immobilizer module and sent it off to a locksmith who programmed the new keys to it.
To swap the immobilizer from a donor you would need to swap not only the immobilizer module and ECM but the CEM (instrument cluster) as well.

I made myself chip from blank with my own tools and did read PIN.
I do it for fun price 30eur + how many chips for people locally.


I can make chips what IMMO accepts directly or to be programmed into memory but i need still read the IMMO. Volvo only can (UPDATE: NOW I CAN MAKE TOO) make ready programmable keys without taking off IMMO3 module for 40 and 70 series as they have data in their servers.

Mostly they don't (bother). For locksmiths its not necessary for to doing the job when if they cut the key and program chip themselfs and so i have not yet seen any third party locksmith tool to show ex. PIN code or to Add Key in memory.. Why? Their key generator tool makes key directly for them from old existing key data by press of a button to new blank chip and call it the day as new working key or keys so they dont need to do OBD stuff.
What i seen locksmith tools they dont just bother on these Volvos with more functionality in their tools.

But to get PIN code local dealership here asked me come there with car owner proofs to there to hand over "access" information. In that part didn't talk of pricing*. Third party tools who has too this functionality does just say PIN comes with the new programmable vehicle key when ordered from dealership. When ordering it will be made clear its programmable or not and come with PIN too i am sure... asking doesn't hurt.


*= I was not at this specific moment to actually ask just PIN code but verify Verlog code of the module as i was searching where in IMMO3 module it was saved to be sure i did find correctly. Turns out VIN/Verlog code of module is saved in same location ( "VIN" code is absurd to call it though as its not full one ).

I shall put my innocent doubt with the role of instrument cluster known as too with name of CDM as it doesn't talk with IMMO. With ECM it does some functions.. but immobilizer stuff? I kindly doubt. When changing IMMO module in 99 years Volvo itself doesn't mention of touch to cluster at all example nor when changing cluster but this time just read the user configuration so you can program it back (Service light limits, Cruise Control yes/no etc..).
