tie rod end from XC90 on my XC70

This could just be a paperwork error but a shop I've been going to for years - but a little too far from home to go to now - replaced inner and outer tie rod ends on my '04 XC70 just over a year ago and now one of the ends is bad. The failure, btw, is pretty subtle but another shop (closer to home) spotted it. The bill says part no 31201228M (aftermarket) which is actually the part number for an XC90. Supposed to be 31429016. How different are these parts? They look similar and the alignment worked out OK afterwards so they can't be that different. If this is actually the wrong part, would it fit at all? Obviously it's never recommended to sub parts from another model but maybe this is an upgrade since the XC90 is a heavier car - but that wouldn't explain the failure after only 7,000km.
Anybody got one of each to compare?

What was the original brand used for the first repair?

Can't tell you on the part numbers as they are listed as correct for the alternate vehicle. I guess it it works then leave it alone. The issues I would check is the length of the 2 rods as a comparison. As the inner tie rod is the same (I'm assuming), then you have 2 fixed points for the outer tie rod. So if the threads are compatible it should be fine, especially if they have been able to align the car.

I would ask the shop that did the work why they used the XC90 part. Maybe it was just a typo or order error on their part, and coincidently the part looks similar and fits. If you have the used one, then I would take a picture of both and compare. I would look for difference in the radius of the bent part in case it allow the steering to interfere on anything.
