Volvo Repair Database 1994 850 Turbo Intake Air Temperature Sensor location with Cabin Air Filter

Post by cmblackburn »

Good evening everyone,
I am trying to install a cabin air filter in my 1994 850 Turbo wagon with ECC, and running into a roadblock with the IAT sensor.
This is only present on the 850 with ECC through M.Y. 1994, per the whitepaper for it.
I ordered the bracket listed in the whitepaper, and have a screw and washer, but cannot figure out where the bracket actually mounts to.
I grabbed the filter adapter from a 2000 S70 at the junkyard, and of course a new cabin air filter.
Pollen season here in NC is one for the records this year, and my wife and I have awful allergies, so it was time.

How my car was originally, with a "rain shield" and no CAF bracket:

The bracket I purchased per the whitepaper:

How I currently mounted it:

I want to do this right, but I haven't found any info on it - right now the sensor is just flopping around under the rain tray.
Thanks for any advice the hive mind can offer :D

I just recently installed that adapter for pollen cabin filter to install a filter but my '97 with ECC doesn't have that sensor.

I don't get the bracket. The end with the round hole is I suggest for the air temp sensor to plug into to hold it as it did with the original bracket.

Bit where the other end sits I don't know. I would suggest as it comes this a washer and screw you drill a hole in a the side of the new filter holder and attach it there as near to where it used to sit. The thing you need to check is that filter can still fit in with bracket in place. I would suggest it is just screwed into the side of the plastic housing so it sits above the filter at the end it used to be. Screw facing with thread outward so as to not catch on the filter?

I can't tell what the end of that bracket looks like because of the glare on the bag. It looks like it has a slot in it, and I wonder if that's supposed to interface with a slot on the filter adapter in some manner.

Is the bracket completely flat?

I too got the filter adapter from a later car, for my 850. I have a 96 NA with manual HVAC controls, so I don't have the sensor to worry about.
