1994 Volvo 850 Turbo Missing Cabin Filter

While doing some engine bay cleaning/vacuuming i stumbled upon a missing cabin filter. It looks as it was never there. No cabin filter = clogged/dirty A/C Evap right? Crap

Yeah, no filter = more junk in the evaporator core. If you can get a shop vac in there you may be able to pull some stuff out.

Some 850s came with a cabin filter, some (like yours) did not. For the filter there is a different housing that snaps in there instead of the rounded air scoop it has now.

Well you can purchase a new filter tray and filter for about $40.00 and install them if you wish. Regards, SpeedyPete

If the AC is still working then clean out that area with a shop vac as best as you like erikv11 mentioned and then install the cabin filter adapter and filter. That will help in the future and hopefully your evaporator core will be ok for a while.

You can check the evap core, as well as clean it out better, by removing the blower motor from the housing from inside the car and then peering to the left through the hole.

Per his other thread it sounds like he'll be removing the fan soon anyway so that's timely advice, abscate.
