199 s80 t6. help ! i am stuck in limp home mode and cant even get the car to the dealers as it will only do 20mph max and the dealer is approx 50 miles away.
the stored codes have been reset with my auto x ray obd11 reader and it still wont come out of 3rd gear limp home mode.
it will only reverse too.
i am looking for advice (apart from leaving the keys in it overnight !!) so at least i can get it going to take it to the dealers.
i have changed the oil, i have looked around this site and the vida`s dvd ive recently got.
has anyone else had the same experience with the same symptoms to give me an idea where to look for the fault
any input would be most appreciated, as this car has swallowed up all my life savings.

According to Haynes, you can use the first two gears, but they must be shifted manually. The warning light has to be extinguished using special Volvo test equipement.

OK, well apparently there were some issues with the throttle bottle causing the limp home mode to activate, so Volvo issued a recall to reprogram the software and clean the throttle body.

thanks for that.
ive read on some other site somewhere about the throttle body and it said if it has i yellow sticker/label on it then it doesnt need doing, it is just the ones with the white sticker/label on.
the strange thing is, the car isnt showing any faults after iv cleared the codes, it just has one forward gear in drive and wont move up or down, limiting the speed to 20mph

thanks for that.
when i contacted my volvo dealer they insisted all the updates had been done on my car.
anyway, what i intend doing tomorrow is "t" ing off a wire from the leads to the autobox which operate s1 and s2 solenoids, also the other two shift solenoid and the other line pressure solenoid. i will then jack the front of the car up, connect my multimeter across the extension wires to measure if there is any voltage from the tcm to the gearbox solenoids.
if there is voltage, then i would suspect sticky solenoids, as i have already measure their resistance accourding to the vida dvd i got, also i put 12v dc across the wires of the solenoids and heard them click.
so, my test tomorrow (if it doesnt rain!!) will tell me more of what is happening.
itmay be that the solenoids are just ceased and it may be pissible to free them with putting 12v dc through them whilst the car is in drive, jacked up, engine running and wheels turning.
i will let you knw the outcome.
thanks for the replies.
other than doing this, i am stuck with a nice car that doesnt go above 20 mph
lol

Still haven't resolved my own problems. On reading about yours I was wondering if yours is only a transmission problem and not a limp home mode.Do you have plenty of power and just wont shift out of first.
If your trans oil has been flushed this may have been the problem. Have read and been told by my own local repair shop that flushing the whole system will in most cases cause problems with valves and solenoids if the oil is high millage or dirty-burnt smelling. I took a chance and removed the pan, changed the filter and replaced just the 7 quarts and not the fluid in the cooler or converter. Looks and smells much better and will do the same thing at a later date (140K) now on the clock. The trans has not ever given us a problem with the exception of the code Vehicle speed signal missing causing all the messages and lights going on.Still only going about 150 miles without having to disconnect the battery to reset the the system again.
Good luck to all of us.

Hey Les, did you get your car fixed? If so, what was wrong with it?
