Did you have a large stuffed or real sheepdog in the back of the car racing around that track??
Wow, you have come a long way with that car over the last year or so.

no bud no dogs allowed on the track!
delta link time!
hi all well just to keep this up to date yesterday i got the drivers side (uk) delta link bush replaced,no special volvo tool just this old hand winch fixed to the house wall and a blowtorch from temu for £3 ,i did replace the main bolt with an expensive £12.50 each only genuine available and the other bolts m12 x 35 i used marine grade stainless steel from boltworld will last forever and if needs be come undone easy with no rust.
repainted the bracket work as it had some heavy rust, power wire brushed and several coats of matt black car paint should keep them sound.
i did break the little torx screw on the suspension arm for the handbrake cable and had to drill it out and find a nice new screw again stainless.
i found if i used the hand winch for pulling the old link as i heated it and the car has a rhino heavy duty winch i fitted for loading wheelchairs with use of a snatch block this electric winch with remote control was perfect for pulling the axle back and securing it in order for the hand winch to pull soundly on the link which i heated till the plastic bush started dripping out and then the blowtorch ran out of gas and whilst i went indoors to change it there was a loud pop and the hand winch fell over with the smoking delta link!
hard work in all honesty the hardest bit was getting the new bush to start in the hole but a dremel and taper the edges and used a luggage ratchet strap around the axle and over the end of the d link and wind it in along with tapping the rubber bit at same time, pics here of some of the work and tools i used!

Good job of it on those bushes Duke. The winches sound safer than swinging a 12lb sledgehammer or whatever that technique was about.
Also glad you got to enjoy your car at the track. You’ve showered her with a lot a attention I’ve noted and you both deserve a good time.

hi thanks and yes the trackday was great fun and im planning another once ive finished the mechanical bits that showed themselves last time, the last of the rear delta link bushes got done today in half the time the first one took because this time i had a big drill and a good brick wall to anchor the winch to front and rear one to hold and manuover the axle and other pulling hard on the old bush 10 minutes heating with the blowtorch and the bush pops out!pfmet wrote: ↑26 Apr 2024, 16:19 Good job of it on those bushes Duke. hardest bit by far i find is starting the new bush back in the hole straight but after cleaning the inside real well and some added silicon grease the use of a sturdy ratchet strap round the axle body and some careful winding and knocking the rubber with a wooden handle and it goes in far enough to get the splined bolt in and tight.
tomorrow i shall be fitting front drop link and still have to wait for rear handbrake shoes to arrive as i found the lining seperate from the shoes and superglued it back on and same the other lining barely attatched i just wont use the handbrake for a few days!
im to old for swinging big hammers and having the winch for the wheelchair (brilliant of volvo to already have a proper strong bracket there for the winch) and makes light work of a job my copd would make impossible, some modern stuff is good.
planning another trackday and want to go to goodwood again but a friend goes to brands hatch and asked if i might come, tempted though!
im hoping this is the last major job now and i can get on with getting the paintwork cancer into therapy.....

cheers,i buggered it up. i just cut halfway through the front sway bar with the angle grinder cutting disc i could not use the handle due to work location and obstacles and my stupid hand just lost its grip and grinder disc jammed pulled it out of my hand and it was locked on!by time it stopped its cut 2/3rds of the way through the damn thing! i got to drive it 20 miles to go get it welded
on the brightside i did get both the new drop links fitted and had a mad 5 minutes with the power wire brush and a few years of rust left her and got repainted and or undersealed again, rest and meds time now, cheers

Disconnect the end link on one side and tie it out of the way. Driving it 20 miles to get welded (not sure how successful that will be on the twisting of the bar, but hopefully!) will likely break it completely. Running with it disconnected is not ideal but not terrible for a short time.
