850 1997 key fob not working

Post by juicywheat »

Hello again,

I have 97 850 T-5, and when I got the vehicle, I only had one manual key with me. I have bought 2 keys, one of them is a big fob with 2 buttons horizontally. I realized I have bought a wrong one since it didn’t program. I have gotten a vertical one that works with my car but today I have tried numerous time but no luck. The red dot flashes but it does not work. Should I go to a dealership to get programmed? I have spent about $100 for keys and I feel exhausted.

Ignition on off 4 times and then turn back on 5th time and as you say it blinks.

So you should be all good to go as its listening fobs near by so mostly check batteries are okay or asks local car locksmith who might have remote check tool are remotes working. The newer remote for 850 where is buttons vertically makes beep sound on each button press.

What is your 210-211 Relay Part Number? (At drivers foot area behind plastic cover is relays) So i can refer what remotes at least is working with it or replace it with another one if it has problems( not yet personally heard of this but.. might be cheapest if it has ).

I haven't personally needed ever reprogram remote back in so there might be something else going on if your original is not making any response (led blinking on dashboard, locks etc..)

Anyway just to make clear this next remote is no no for 850 models as far i know.

Thank you for the detailed response. I believe it could be the key fob itself issue. The vertical one does not make a beeping sound when clicked.

If you haven't already, be sure to check that you have fresh good quality batteries installed.
One of my fobs stopped working and I got it to work again by prying the fob apart carefully and cleaning up the contact traces and conductive pads on the switches inside.
