I’m honestly not sure how to search on this….my searching so far has come up empty.
I presently have a 2002 V70 2.4T with 300k miles. I do almost all of my own work on it, and have ViDA. The only major non-service work I have had to do on it was replacing the transmission a few years back (I had a local shop do that). I had the timing belt replaced recently, so I’m theoretically good until 400k in that regard. Will it last that long? Who knows!?!?
I really enjoy this car and plan to drive it til the wheels fall off, but I know it only has so much more to give.
With that that in mind, I’m interested in the newer Gen V70, but curious what the differences are between Gen 2 and Gen 3? Pros, cons, things to look out for, etc. (like the nightmare transmission issues with the P2 that I ran into).
Thanks!
Jonboy

I think you’re comparing P2 to P3 series?
There shouldn’t be transmission issues with good fluid - those problems were mostly 2001 and 2002.
The P2 was designed before Volvo was sold and is all Volvo. The P3 is essentially the world Ford Mondeo chassis.
Check in with member scott850 - he’s done some talking with factory mechanics about their experiences with P3’s.

Hi, the transmissions on the P3's are reliable. They will will perform better if the Transmission Fluid is changed regularly. The all wheel drive (Haldex) get's better over time - i.e.Newer Haldex is better.
I personally in general - prefer the P3's over the P2's. Also in my opinion, the interior and exterior has improved from P2 to P3. P3 tends to have larger wheels. I value Larger wheels over Smaller ones - larger wheel for one thing improves the ride quality. By larger I mean the overall size of the tire.
