clicking noise when pressing brake pedal, 2002 V70 2.4T
I just replaced all 4 discs and rotors on my 2002 V70 24T, 142,000 miles. The brakes seem to work well and the car stops quickly and smoothly. But when I press the brake pedal, I hear a thunk. It seems to be coming from in front of the gear shift, I can actually feel it if I'm holding the shifter. The car doesn't need to be moving or in gear. Everthing else works fine. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
after a little more trouble shooting, I noticed the clunking only occurs when the car is running and in park. I suspect it has something to do with the safety level on the automatic shifter. Is there a link between the brake system and the shifter? If so, what could be causing the clunk I hear and can feel in the shifter, and how do I get rid of it?

It's a solenoid for the shift lock, actually (makes sure you can't pull the car out of Park unless your foot is on the brake). When they get older they get noisy, I just live with it on my S70.jandj wrote:after a little more trouble shooting, I noticed the clunking only occurs when the car is running and in park.
