odometer and trip odometer stopped functioning 1982 240 wago

My 240 wagon's odometer and trip odometer suddenly stopped functioning. Everything else on the instrument panel still works. My Chilton's doesn't say anything specific about repairing the odometers, just says pull the instrument cluster. How involved is the job? Are both odometers mechanical or electrical? What specifically do I need to fix to get the odometers functioning again?

I think you will find they are mechanical as the speedo is probably cable driven at that age.

As for parts - I think you will be struggling to find them and it may pay to consider a used unit.
