The bolt cleaning and lube checking is a 6 monthly task for me here. With the seasonal tire swaps I check the collars are all free to move. When I worked for a short time at Volvo dealer, I was surprised how many wheel bolts were swapped due them being rusted solid. I picked some up at the junkyard a couple of months ago and a couple were totally seized solid. Penetrating oil and heat would not loosen them off so I junked them. Strange this in I have a spare set, but they do not have the collar on them. Those low profile ones I use on steel wheels if they are fitted. I have found some lug bolts in the past that have been impact gunned onto the steel wheels which left a ridge on the lug bolt taper. Didn't like the idea of a ridge on the alloy wheel contact points!
I have stopped using Volvo brake discs/rotors on out P2 XC70. We had a string of problems with warping on 3 sets in a row over only about 20,000 miles and one set was also re-ground. Since fitting Brembos and Akebono pads no more issues and minimal brake dust on the wheel rims. Rotors have been on for around 40,000 miles with no issues so far.
Interesting seeing the parking brake system. It is similar to the P80 but the main difference is that the P80 has a balancing bar with the adjuster up by the lever. Fitment is also a challenge there. For the AWD you have to drop the rear suspension trailing arms to fit the cables. Mind you I find the FWD are worse to fit!
Thanks for posting all the pictures. Milngavie looks good, and Bo'Ness looks it's typical weather..................!
Neil.

water in headlight. but the fix was simple.
wife hosed all the pollen off the car, soon after the headlight fogged up heavily with moisture,
remove the main bulb , insert air nozzle, leave the car in the strong sunllight with the air nozzle stuck in at low pressure, set around 5 psi.,
20 minutes and its clear again.

The postman arrived this morning and to my dismay he never had my flexi-hoses. I emailed the vendor and 4 hour later they replied that they don't have them in stock, my reply was brief and curt so I contacted Paypal who gave me a refund within minutes.
I called my MOT guy and he said he would see what he could do, an hour later he called to say he has two hoses waiting for me so I'll collect them tomorrow. Tonight I decided to try and crack open the metal pipe to flexi-hose unions and it was like working on a one year old car, the couplings broke free and the nut spins freely on the metal pipe. That took me a grand total of 10 minutes so I decided to clean the rear arch liners rather than head indoors and wash dinner dishes.

Collected the flexi-hoses today from my MOT guy, while I was out the postman brought some clips so that I could replace the one that broke on the door threshold.
The flexi-hose and caliper were swapped over and brakes gravity fed, I didn't even lose enough fluid to require a top up in the reservoir.
Took a bit of fettling to get the anti-rattle spring to make contact on both sides, this was before. Went for a short drive and pulled the parking brake lever to centre the shoes then when I returned I adjusted them to 4 clicks and refitted the gaiter. Next I fitted the yellow clip to the interior plastic and once I cleaned up my mess I checked the old flexi-hose which doesn't seem to have collapsed so I pulled the caliper apart expecting to see a load of corrosion, but it all looked clean so I still don't know why it stuck on. I'm none the wiser.

P0301 cyl 1 misfire code on the 02 S60. Thank you for all the folks here who recommended keeping old coils for spares—back and running good in 15 minutes. Failed one was an aftermarket coil, 2.5 yrs and 14,000 miles.

the new strut bearing arrived, getting the strut out has been a project.
2004 volvo V70.
every stinkin bolt and nut is fighting to the death.
i gave up with sprays and put grease on the threads, penetration spray don't do squat. The rust is binding the threads up.
So I tightened the nut back up.
Then used a wire brush on a drill to clean the threads first, then the grease on exposed threads. the grease is a big help.
i had a breaker baR with 3 foot pipe on the end to get leverage.
The drop link was no better but its disconnected.
it took me almost 4 hours to get the driver side.
This is war...i need to get an earthquake air impact.

What’s your poison for seized nuts? I was taught to use a heat gun around the immediate surrounding of the nut and penetrant. Then hit it fast with an impact or breaker bar. I’ve seen som swear by high torque impact guns cause they say it’s less likely to snap a head.
The issue with earthquake air is you need the air compressor or large reserve tanks. Those things blow through air quickly.
I like your plan though for the nuts. Grease first then pull it off. Wishing you no snapped studs!

I always feel like the thing you need to expand is the nut - you want something to expand to allow the PB Blaster to suck into the gaps.
But in jonesg's case, if the rust is locking up the threads, I'm wondering if a thread chaser may help, but how would it fit in tight quarters?
