First question to answer: FWD v's AWD creeping forward and more peppy. Definitely. You have a lighter car and less rotating hardware to move as well as the viscous coupling and the angle gear to overcome.

Early FPR. If I recall that part is now NLA from Volvo and has been for a couple of years or so. Might have to find a solution using an off the shelf part or some sort of inline pressure adjustable fpr.

This says all 850 FPR versions for the 850 are NLA - Sorry.

Well Gus my mechanic friend back from his travels arrived this morning to tackle the timing belt on the 00 R. It is 10 years old and although the car has only done about 10k miles in that time, rubber perishes all the same.

I was planning to watch the belt swapping or even do it myself, but he was in a rush. As quick as I got the tools out he needed, the job was done. Probably from getting the car on the hoist to done was less than an hour and probably much less. It took me longer to find the tools he needed than he did working! I did get a brief instruction, but not sure 100% I would try this again without being hands on while under supervision!

Glad we did this before the car was being used, as when he lifted the coolant header tank we found evidence of leaking coolant from the base of the tank. Gus hardly stopped laughing the whole time as he would as for a art and I would produce a used or new replacement. He just kept shacking his head!

Naturally a nice cleaned used tank was found and swapped over and hopefully all is now good.

Old tank bottle below:

Crack in base of header tank
Crack in base of header tank
Broken overflow line nipple
Broken overflow line nipple

Above this was more worrying as this could have blocked the line as the bits of plastic were broken inside the pipe!

What do you think of this? https://www.skandix.de/en/spare-parts/e ... r/1069210/

I think it looks right but I'm concerned that there's no brand.

As for the turbo flutter, seems to be just a vacuum hose issue. Probably loosened up since I was fiddling with the tree.

While searching for the fuel pressure regulator, I came across this.

https://s.lazada.com.ph/s.P4CE3

Very interesting, provides a ton of equivalent part numbers. I'm thinking I can use this as reference for finding parts, but it also means the fuel rail mounted regulator would be easy to find as there are many models across many makes using something equivalent. BMW and Volkswagen especially would be very common.

Skandix have been finding alternate parts for older Volvo's for years. Generally speaking their parts are good. As to the other option it would be good to know for the older P80's (850's) if the VW/BMW part works as well as it may give as an option going forward. Not sure what that price translates to in US$.

Thanks, I'll most likely get a known brand from a BMW specialist shop I know and report back. Won't be any time soon though. The E46 apparently had a similar story with at least one fuel return revision so it's highly probable that the other returns also have an equivalent. 3 bar, 1:1 rising rate seems to be relatively common.

Went driving around a little and unfortunately I seem to have a new clunking noise from the back. Consistently happens when the rear goes over a speed bump so I'm thinking rear suspension. It's on new shocks, and I also replaced the top mount, upper spring perch and bump stops, so I'm not sure what it could be.

Did you check the sway bar end links? They can mimic strut noise sometimes.

Also check the rear axle bushes at both ends. Make sure they are not split or separated.

Hadn't thought of the sway bar end link, didn't think the rear had those.

I'll start with the bottom spring retainer, double check that it's tight since the shop that did the shocks had to retorque the upper mounts, then I'll take things from there.

Now if solving the noise inside the cabin from all the old plastic was as simple...
