Hi everyone,
Trying to solve my 2007 S60 Trunk Lid water leak. Every time it rains, if I open the trunk lid, water
is leaking out of the Trunk Lid. I have no water inside the trunk itself...
- In theory, you can drill a hole (or a few holes) at the bottom of the trunk lid, prime with paint, and this
would allow any water to get out...pretty much similar to design of the car door.
- Anyway, I need help finding the PN for the clip that holds that panel.
If you watc the youtube video below (I beleive it is the only video out there explaining how to remove
that panel), you will see the clip: I need help fidning PN for this clip!
Photos:
1. The clip that I need help with finding PN.

2. Photo showing 2007 S60 with water inside trunk lid, I used a piece of paper towel to wedge it
open so you can see the missing clip, this is where water gets in.
For comparison purpose, the 2006 S60 has no issue with water in the trunk lid...

UPDATE...
- Went to junk yard to pick up some clips from a 2009 S60...
- I think the PN is Volvo 9178281, about $4/each.
You can find alternative generic clips, I guess.
- Wear gloves/goggles!
- You can see all the top clips, probably from sun exposure over the years, broke off at the top.
- Tools: pry tool (if you don't have it, use a pair of cutting pliers and gently squeeze it) + paper towel
as cushion to protect paint job; 10-mm wrench for license plate nuts, Torx for the bolts holding the
license plate mount.
- I used some butyl rope as sealant for the center pin. The center pin (idk the PN), broke off a long time ago.
If you watch the youtube video above, you need to remove the carpet trim piece on the inside of the trunk lid
to get access to it.
I think this center piece is over-engineered, basically at factory, the plastic panel is slid over to the right during
installation, then center pin installed to lock it in place.
But why? the 2 Torx bolts holding the license plate mount will hold this plastic panel in place anyway.
- For the center pin (this was exactly where water came from), I simply used the old plastic clip, trim the top off,
then add a bit of butyl rope to seal it.
- This whole think took about 30 minutes, nice easy DIY.

I have some BMW door clips lying around...
Since I already buttoned up the S60.. I am playing with it for others as eBay does not list these Volvo plastic clips in bulk.
The BMW part number is in the photo. You can buy bulk of these BMW clips on eBay for cheap (generic Chinese stuff), sth like $8 for 20 or sth like that.
The diameter of the trunk hole is about 7 mm.
I used a wrench to play with the BMW clips for fitment.
If anyone tries a non-Volvo clip and it works, please post PN bc Volvo clips are > $4/each!
