I don’t know if the trunk seal from a ‘98 S70 is similar but I have an extra one in great shape if you’re interested.
The local salvage recently got the car in and I’ve been going by there and stripping parts from it. I got the trunk seal because mine has some paint overspray from repainting the trunk lid, but it can be cleaned if you want or need the salvage one.
850 Sedan trunk seal NLA, other options? Topic is solved

That is very kind of you. Unfortunately the S70 gasket has a very different shape and will not fit.Twarr12000 wrote: ↑22 Jun 2024, 00:30 I don’t know if the trunk seal from a ‘98 S70 is similar but I have an extra one in great shape if you’re interested.

Hi Neil,
I got a photo of the gasket today. You can clearly see how flat it got, especially around the radii. It's also pretty flat where it goes along the bottom edge in the bumper area.
My daughter and her boyfriend installed the generic one from Amazon today. It actually looks pretty good and she confirmed that it has a little bounce to it when you close the lid, which was missing with the old one. We will see how it holds up in the carwash and the rain.
If you do come a really nice used one, we are definitively interested.
Thanks, Dirk

.
This is for the rear hatch of the 2002 V70 XC. Found some water in the spare tire area so adjusted the entire rear hatch. The rear had been hit prior to my ownership. The adjustment made a huge difference in the alignment of the hatch but still saw a little bit water though no longer in the spare tire well area.
Used the curtain wire to push up / made fuller the entire worn seal. Thought it might slip out so found a foam seal but thicker. Both kept water out but the thicker foam seal made the hatch feel tighter when closed. Could potentially use the foam seal if you can insert this into an inner or outer gap / space of the old seal to restore its height.
.
I used the 7mm foam but the 5mm or 6mm might of worked.

I have used that round foam to 'puff-up' flattened seals before too. I think I say it on Wheeler Dealers on a 2 door coupe of some sort which was known for air and water leaks around the top rear corner of the door seal.
If you get one of the door seals that are hollow, you can use this where you can get it in, but half way around the seal is hard to get too. Using a smaller diameter foam rod may work, but then you may have to fit it and try to push it around with an opened up coat hanger.
I'll keep looking. I did think about an S70, but I know the shape of the trunk lid is different, but it may use the same shape of seal that could be adapted??
Neil.
