Does anyone have a specific recommendation for a DICE or DICE clone? I have spent literally scores of hours getting VIDA up and running, both the official version (host) and the 2014D hack (virtual machine) only to find out neither of the 2 sub-$100 cables I bought are recognized.
I have a quote from D5T5 for a supposed DICE replacement for €164. But tbh they seem a little sketchy to me. I’m seriously thinking of just buying a legit DICE from Volvo but I really don’t like the idea of paying $700 for maybe 10% of the functionality that I’ll use. It seems like overkill for a ‘99 MY car which is primarily what I would use it on.
At the risk of sounding ungrateful, recommendations to “look on eBay/TEMU/Alibaba/Amazon/search the Internet etc” Isn’t helpful. There’s an entire cottage industry of people selling junk automotive interfaces. I would like a specific recommendation. Thanks everyone!

What about local? Craigslist, FB Marketplace... tell them you want to see it working in person.

I'll move this to Classifieds and re-title it a bit. MVS users are high trust, so if someone responds, you'll know when they joined/post count... those can give an even higher level of trust.

The specific seller I got from ebay no longer sells the item, but the (same?) item can be found from other sellers for the same price https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_id=226 ... ota&_sis=1
The one I got works well with vida. I have not tested too many advanced features, but everything seemed to work.
You will need drivers for it which you can download here: https://d5t5.com/article/generic-j2534
If you are installing vida in a vm, sometimes you can have issues recognizing usb devices. Messing around with usb setting in the virtualbox/vmware I was able to fix it. Try changing the usb version and troubleshooting.
To test the cable outside of your VM, you can download vdash from here https://d5t5.com/article/vdash-volvo-diagnostic and install the driver I listed above and see if vdash connects. If it does, then your cable is good, and something is wrong with your vm configuration.
