850 1996 ECC has no power

Post by salezander »

Symptoms:
The controls on my ECC don’t work, the REC and AC lights don’t come on, and there’s no backlight. The natural assumption is that there’s no power to the unit. There’s also an issue where my compressor doesn’t ever kick on, and I’ve tried to solve that separately but I don’t think I can reliably diagnose or fix it until I repair or replace the ECC.

What I’ve done:
So far I’ve checked fuse 31 (and 5 for good measure) and they aren’t the problem, and I’ve switched out the relay behind the glove box for a new one that didn’t change anything. I’ve also taken out the ECC unit and checked the three wire plugs in the back to see if there was anything there that I could repair, but nothing there as expected.

What to do:
I could buy a new ECC unit and hope that my current one is just shot and that’s all it is, but is there anything else I can check before doing that?

Thanks!

Maybe you've already checked this, but if not I would measure the voltage on the harness feeding the ECC to make sure you've got 12V between power and ground.
1997 855 GLT (Light Pressure Turbo) still going strong. Previous: 1986 240 GL rusted out in '06, 1985 Saab 900T rusted out in '95, 1975 Saab 99 rusted out in '95, 1973 Saab 99 rusted out in '94
