Platinum is advertised as a fluid “converter”- i.e., it has a complete smorgasbord of friction modifiers in it to convert (merely one example) DexIII to Honda ATF (which is its own unique beast(s)), etc., and vice-versa. I would avoid that unless in desperation - which is what I *think* it was originally blended for, way back when Honda ATF was crazy expensive and hard to get outside of a physical trip to the dealership.

You can look it up the application matrix here:

https://www.lubegard.com/wp-content/up ... -Chart.pdf

Lubegard is really good with technical help, at least in the past. I’ve conversed with them twice IIRC, a decade or so ago when I had some technical questions about additive content and concentration wrt their AT and PS products. If you can’t get something answered, do contact them.
Well for me, the sales rep of Lubeguard said it was the upgraded version of HFM. In fact the sales rep was so sure that Platinum is HFM with a new formulation, that is why I got it. Then some time later I contact them again to ask about what exactly is the formulation of Platinum as in is it HFM+Anti-wear to which they said it was a different formulation for different purposes, on the third contact they then said it was a perfect choice, basically three different opinions.

In reality I did perhaps need it, as I was running mainly Mannol 3309 fluid. But I often wonder what would've happened if I got HFM.

I don’t know about Mannol, but if it was labeled “3309” it should be exactly what you want w/o modification. But the additives will likely do no harm and the ester base will give you the valve body and solenoid conditioning you want.

If you had extremely old, worn-out fluid, the HFM would be ideal. Or if you wanted to put old DexIII in your Honda. And I believe that is what it intended for. But adding it to fresh and/or regularly maintained 3309 fluid is likely overkill.
