Keeping with the overhead cam theme,
Hall-Scott Single overhead cam six.jpg
200 HP in 1925
https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1925- ... d-sedan-2/
The hull concept is said to have inspired the founders of Boston Whaler, and Gar Wood had C.C. Smith of Chris-Craft fame build a racer with the same configuration, including the surface-piercing prop. Throws quite a rooster tail.
Sold previously on BaT to a flipper at ca. $70k, bid to $40k this round, and the FL dealer gets to keep it a while longer.

Interesting, a catamaran in 1925?

And why "surface-piercing" props? Is that more efficient? Although I think hydroplane props are like that, just the bottom part in the water.

Beautiful and interesting boat!

V70 is a gem, hopefully it finds a good home.

940 Turbo is also a gem. I had a 92 with the 2.0 HPT motor and manual trans in Europe. Still one of my all time favorite cars.

Gar Wood - who made his fortune in the trash hauling business - had Christopher Columbus Smith build the first modern hydroplane during this same era, with the double sponson and the air compression gap to lift the hull, decreasing hull wetted area resulting in more speed than a simple planing hull with the same horsepower. A fluid dynamics engineer could better address the prop issue, it's not inherently more efficient, just a product of the hull design. Plus, Rooster Tail !

One of the rarest of the US orphan models, this '56 Mark II is one of fewer than 3,000 built.
1956_continental-mark-ii.jpg
https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1956- ... mark-ii-2/
Continental was a stand-alone marque, just like Edsel, and seemed to stem from the same fever dream of a couple members of the Ford dynasty. Both were insanely expensive to build, lost money on every one they made, and both folded after a few years.

I always thought Edsels were butt-ugly. The Mark II is timeless.
