you can do a fuel pressure test on the rail with a cheap-o tire pressure gauge, the stick kind that shoots out the square white scale, throw it away when you're done checking fuel pressure with it.
that's what i used after cleaning the tank and replacing the pump, sender, filter, fuel line, cleaning the rail and injectors, etc to make sure my pump was working correctly. (01 v70 XC 2.4L Turbo b5244t3 engine, plastic saddle tank) removing the tank on the s60 is a breeze, the v70's require removal of the prop or drive shaft as well as dropping rear sub frame and differential.
if you have a metal tank that should be very obvious at a glance when you're underneath the car.
