Hi,
I posted a couple of days ago about my struggles with getting the engine out of my 1999 S70 T5, manual transmission, which I am converting to electric drive. I wound up unhooking the control arms, removing the CV axles, and removing both engine and transaxle at the same time. Well and good.
Now, "Assembly is the reverse of disassembly". Except it ain't. Pulling the CV axle out of the transaxle on the driver's side just required a little prying. Putting the new one back in is not happening.
The transaxle is in place, the passenger side CV axle is in place, the driver's side axle is in place EXCEPT for that last POP where the little snap ring compresses enough to slide into the groove that's somewhere in the bowels of the machine. It won't POP. So it's about 1.5 inches away from being installed.
Please tell me the trick. There has to be a trick.
Hopefully,
T
How on earth does one get the driver's side CV axle to pop INTO the manual transmission?

If you replaced the axle with an aftermarket, many of them have a poorly made snap ring that can ruin your whole afternoon. We swap them ( the snap rings) over when we swap axles
The trick is…
Wheel bearing grease. Glue the snap ring into a nice symmetric position with a dollop of grease, then it will snap in with a nice pop.

Thank you! I'll try that tonight.
I wish I had a lift. It would simplify much.

Build yourself some stacking 2 x 4 wheel cribs. They work great.

It's done. It went POP.
The engine is out, the transaxle is back in, the car is sitting on its wheels.
I am kind of wondering if I'll be putting back enough weight to put the suspension where it needs to be. It's sitting crazy high now...I might be needing diferent springs....
This project is always throwing me curve balls.
