Still have that "chugging" sound, so I might have to be attempting a seal between the downpipe and turbo. Drove to NYC to meet a friend and noticed some bump steer on the wonderful roads, when I lift the front end up, there seems like play in the rack itself, I've read about adjusting preload on the rack but haven't been able to find the threads again. For doing the oil pan, using an engine support bar helped a lot, rather than trying to jack up the engine with the crank side mount.

Also thinking about replacing the end links on the rear sway bar. Haven't seen anything about this for an AWD.

Edit: Also poked around a bit on my sister's 850. Has a problem starting where it coughs and sputters no matter how long you crank it the first time, then springs to life the second time you go to start it. It runs beautifully once it's going. Already changed the starter. It had a bad battery when we got it and the PO was just jumping it every time she needed to get somewhere.
Be really careful around the 1998-2000 AWD rear axle. Most of those bushings are hardware are NLA

Put those alternators together in a box. Maybe we will do the Calgary to Albany express

I don't know that I've seen it on a P80, but I have seen it on many other vehicles. It's not uncommon at all for sensors like that to leak through the sensors themselves.

+1 on the through oil sensor leaks. It happens.

I thought the rear swaybar end links were still available for AWD's until I just looked. NLA, even aftermarket at all the places I normally buy from! Yikes! Except Rock Auto. 3 x aftermarket options for P80 AWD's

Yes, I found a few options, not my first choice but at least they exist.

An immense source of anxiety for me. They're either NLA or $86 for a bushing. I feel there should be more aftermarket/legacy OEM support around the AWD with the v70r.

I read about Mercedes and BMW restarting production lines for parts for their legacy models. I want to say for the 180E, but I'm not sure

Thanks, I'll have a read through this later, and might make my own thread as I troubleshoot further. The car runs beautifully, the starter that we took off was starting to get stuck slightly engaged to the flywheel, and the gear had a lot of wear present.

I installed Sachs struts on 1998 V70 NA. After the PCV system, this is the biggest project I have undertaken. Driver's side strut took 4 hours, with the help of a friend...we had no idea what we were doing, and learned a lot.

I took what I learned and did the passenger side in about 90 minutes, on my own.

While working on the struts, I noticed I have a torn inner tie rod boot on the driver side, and a torn CV axle boot on the passenger side, so those are going on the To-do list.

I tried to do the control arms, but the bolts through the bushings are so seized up on both sides, I'm going to need PB blaster to do its magic for a few days before I work up the courage to try again.

I added a new throttle cable. That went well. I used a door panel remover on the firewall in the engine bay to pop the old one out, and the new one popped right in. I need to adjust it, but the installation was easy.

I added a new gas cap. Hoping that resolves P0455, but I recognize nothing has been that easy on this car yet. So, I'm probably going to need to do a smoke test?

Also put on a passenger side headlight wiper arm...which has been missing as long as I have owned the car. Just makes the front look a little nicer if you don't pay attention to the cracks in the bumper.

Nothing, just looked at it from across the yard. I just wanted to post something.

I think I'm going to drive the Mercedes to work today.

The local auction house has a 740GL wagon that I'm hoping they make available soon. I'm hoping that's my winter car this year. Paint is peeling, the spare tire area got crunched somehow, and it's dirty, but looks decent otherwise. I want to try a red block. I figure with snow tires it shouldn't be too bad in the snow.

The 850 is due for an oil change. I kinda would like to try the Valvoline Restore and Protect that's really supposed to clean up an engine, but it's a little light... only 5w30, which Volvo seems to think is basically water.

Rear wheel drive 240/740 Volvos (especially wagons) are great in snow. Weight balance is good. Ground clearance good. Power is not at all excessive. With rear chains they may be unstoppable until you are pushing snow.

We don't get enough snow here to warrant chains. I think they might actually be illegal. It's good to know my idea of a 740 isn't totally crazy, Though. Last time I looked at it, I forgot to see what size tires it needs.
