Window wiper control lever 1999 Volvo V70

Post by ekoszyk »

I just bought a 1999 Volvo V70 and it has 128,000 miles on it. Everything runs great for now except my front wipers aren't working, when I press the button on the control lever the rear wipers work but no spray, when i push the lever in position 2 and 3 nothing happens. Is the control lever loose? What can i do? Has anyone experienced this problem. If it rains I can't drive

Welcome to MVS.
Did you move the stalk up or down (rather than turn the control at the end of it) for the front wipers ? Check your fluid level but sometimes these get clogged or pumps go bad.

Hi, what do you mean by stalk? I tried moving the control lever up and down and it seems loose, but the weird thing is the back wipers are working

The back wiper works on a knob that turns...the front works on a stalk that moves up or down (like the turn signal on the left of the steering column).

This is a 99 and in the wrong forum.
His wipers work just like your 98 with the slide switch for the rear wipers

Well, my '98 is a sedan (S70) so no rear wiper.
But You're right about the wrong forum. I'll move this thread right away.
Thanks for sorting out the confusion.

Dave, the rear wipers on Gen1 cars (err.. wagons) are different than P2 cars.
There is a little rocker switch on the right stalk, snap it one way and it's 6 second swipe mode and the other way, it's in constant swipe mode

Jim,
Once again, thanks for the clarification.
It's been a long time since we had an 850 wagon, which I believe is the same as you describe as well as for the V/XC70 first gen's.
