Fuel Pump Relay - '05 V70 N/A

Post by Faust »

While diagnosing a fuel pump problem I wanted to test the relay, looking at all of videos on YouTube, I couldn't find.it. Had it been moved to the ECM in '05? If so, that is the reason I was hesitant to buy another '05. In my first one the high beam relay had been moved to the ECM, when I lost my high beams, the dealer quoted me about $1200, new ECM, removal and installation, then loading software. That being unacceptable I jumped the relay with a toggle switch on the dash. Not what engineers would refer to as an "elegant solution".

For an 05, I would expect it to be either on top of the fuel tank on the RHS just forward of the fuel tank, or, it may have been moved to a position in the spare tire wheel well. usually on the RHS near the back. They call it a PEM. It is a Ford part.

I recognize it from the illustration. Hadn't realized what it was, I expected a normal looking relay

I was the same when first looking for it on a friends S60. I spent a lot of time looking for it on the top RHF corner of the tank only to find it had been relocated to the trunk. That was done with an official kit to remove it from the corrosion on the plug and component. Compared to a P80 fuel pump relay it is a ridiculously part from Volvo. It is labelled as a Ford FoMoCo label and the Volvo part number on it. As such I pulled a bunch of then from junkyards. They have date codes on them so I try to check those. I only realized that after pulling a few. I mostly took them from smashed cars working on the theory they must have been running before the crash........!
