New Key Fob for 2000 V70R—part discontinued?

Post by SolarTrans »

Bought a lovely black 2000 V70R, but the previous owner misplaced 1 key and 2 fobs.

Heard from my local dealer that the fob, part number 9166200, has been discontinued, and that I need a brand new one with the barcode (someone on here called it "identification tags") in order to program it.

Does anyone know a good source for this? I'm trying to get back to 2 remotes and 2 keys. Seems keys may still be available, but wanted to cross the remote bridge first.

Hm. Not sure on this one. I know the P2 fobs need the barcode on the packaging for programming, but not sure on the P80. Maybe someone can confirm either way.

The late model P80 cars (99+) don't need a barcode for programming. They will need an active VIDA subscription ($70 for three days) and a software download ($70) to pair a new remote.

Even through the remote is no longer available from Volvo, I got this one off of eBay a while back. It says DENSO on the back who I would guess to be the original manufacturer. https://www.ebay.com/itm/172788153637

Best of luck!

Thanks so much—I will order two of those and try them out. Is it the same process for coding a new key after the dealer cuts it? I know they have an immobilizer.

Update—phoned the prior owner on a whim and apparently their fob turned up after being missing for ages. Back up and running with 1 key + 1 fob—by the sounds of it, may cost a few hundred to get a 2nd proper set

It's a similar process to the dealer doing it, but if you are used to working with VIDA (which you should try to do as it's a fantastic tool for these cars) it's easier than it seems. I documented how I used it on my 99 R on my swedespeed thread. https://www.swedespeed.com/threads/my-1 ... 434/page-3

There is an Android app called 850 OBDII that is "suppose" to be able to program key fobs. I've been messaging back and forth with the designer of the app and he says it works but wants to make improvements to it. The app is like $3-4 on Playstore. I have the app and have used it but not for this, other than pulling the PIN from the VGLA that is used to code in a new remote. I may be able to help you with it based on what I've learned from him (Aleksi, user name xanthefin on this site). I may just go ahead and buy the one at the above eBay link and try it - free return if it doesn't work.

Try to at least get a second key, if you lose the one you have you'll be in trouble because of the immobilizer.

I just ordered the above eBay fob for my 2000 S70. I'll let you know how it goes programming with the app.

Does 850 OBDII work on 1999- cars? I thought it only worked on -98? If it works on the newer ones that is good to know. I know you can't use Vida on the -98 cars as it can supposedly brick the ECU.
