Driver door lock only rotates [S60 2005]

Post by dikidera »

On my S60 2005(facelift) the driver door lock does not work, I insert the key and it requires force but it eventually can rotate but nothing happens I can spin it several times in each direction and it neither locks or unlocks the door.

Is this due to a mechanical problem with the linkages, the lock itself or is this lock potentially not the original for this car? I've been fortunate the FOB works but anything can happen.

There's a linkage rod that connects the key cylinder lock to the door latch assembly and one end pushes into a blue clip, The rod may have pulled out of the clip. You will have to remove the inner door panel to check.

Latch assembly with two linkage rods shown, one goes to the door handle and the other goes to the key lock/unlock cylinder.

Thanks. By Murphy's law it means it must have broken somehow as I don't see how it would otherwise pop out.

You need to buy the specific rubber grommet for the two sticks to the door actuators. You can only get them at the dealer, but that may have changed since the last time I dealt with it

The grommets will be destroyed over time and fall off the metal piece that holds the two sticks that connects the actuator and door handle.

Look into the door diagram to find the part number. Of course, you need to make sure the pieces are actually missing in the first place.

I watched the video and this is for 98-00 cars, different design for 2001-2007 cars.

Yeah I also think it won't be relevant to the P2 series.
