multiple problems with my 1994 volvo 940
Hell ,just need some help with these problems.my volvo 1994 940tubo has always ran warmer than usual, the cooling fans came on more than usual. This is what i did,i changed the coolant and the thermostat, also i did a minor tuneup, wires ,plugs, wires, oil change. When i did all of this the car seem to run worse.it's runnig hotter,it shuts off after running for about ten minutes.I don't understand too much about the turbo on this vehicle ,but it seems to be getting very hot to the point that it's smoking.what could be causing these issues? can someone help?

Hutch, welcome to Matthew's Volvo Site.
Do you have a check engine light on and have you checked for fault codes?
When you changed the coolant did you flush out the cooling system before adding the new coolant? Also on the coolant before you drained and refilled the system did you set the heater control to max hot and massage the two radiator hoses whilst refilling to get all air out of the system?
Did the turbo get hot enough to smoke before you did the jobs?
Bill.

To answer both of the questions that you asked,is no i did'nt do any of those things,is it too late? and my turbo did'nt smoke before i did the oil change, i was thinking it was due to my puttting 10w-30 oil in instead of 10w-40 mabey i don't know. my valvecover gets very hot,is this normal ,and is it normal for my temp. guage to stay in the middle,i'm also thinking that this is why my fans come on more than usual.

only the service engine light at startup, but it goes out afert a minute. don't know how to find connector location.

Yes, the valve cover normally gets very hot. The turbo gets super hot because exhaust gas runs through it. If it's smoking, it's probably due to something leaking onto it, either oil or coolant. The fan cycling on and off is normal operation. Do what Bill said to get the air out of the cooling system. If there's an air bubble trapped in the block it can cause a hot spot that could ruin your engine.hutch wrote:To answer both of the questions that you asked,is no i did'nt do any of those things,is it too late? and my turbo did'nt smoke before i did the oil change, i was thinking it was due to my puttting 10w-30 oil in instead of 10w-40 mabey i don't know. my valvecover gets very hot,is this normal ,and is it normal for my temp. guage to stay in the middle,i'm also thinking that this is why my fans come on more than usual.
