We used to always do that - clean the interior, give the contacts a quick file. Same with the rotor if it wasn’t scorched away. New points, new condenser.

The main issue with caps is if the contacts get really worn then the gap increases added to the wear in the rotor arm. Eventually once worn enough the spark has difficulty jumping the gap. I had a 245 owned by 10 previous careless owners and it would not start when it rained or was cold and damp. Condensation build up was enough to prevent it work until I sprayed it with WD-40 and dried it out.

Anew cap and rotor fixed it.

Don't recall seeing the plastic behind the contacts on the cap.

I kept it for a rainy day, but really - could it be reused for an extended period? Just curious, if the contacts are not worn out, are there other considerations?
(You know, keeping the ex as a spare ;) )
They are quite expensive now, I almost feel stupid for throwing 1 or 2 away when I replaced them as a tune up item.

That cap doesn't look to be worn, but rather it has deposits on it. I'd bet the rotor is what was worn. When I re-newed my ignition, my new cap hadn't arrived yet. I cleaned the original cap, but the rotor had metal missing. The car ran fine with a new rotor and cleaned cap. I did eventually get a new cap installed.

What did you buy? Genuine Volvo? I bought some Proparts Sweden nozzles and my washers are still terrible on my 850. My S70 washers were fantastic. I should probably rebuild the entire washer system on the 850, but it's always low priority.

Bought these biltema. I think S70 came too by default which spreads more from top of my head when i went through options months ago for these what to test and i looked which makes wider pattern and not just four pointy streams as cleans very poorly. These kind of can be found from various price ranges as most likely no brands generic ones.

Why would you keep the old one when you can send it back to FCP for a free replacement, ( next time)

Replaced some vac lines. Couldn’t find good pictures of the intake to fuel pressure regulator line so here ya go if it helps. Helps to take the box out and lift the intake tube to access the nipple
